Prof. M. S. Patten has charge of
the Alapalia school, the fall term of
which began this week.
Yearly meeting at Oak Grove,four
miles south of Rrookfleld, was large
ly attended last Saturday and Sun
day.
Sheriff Daniel VV. Tison is one of
the busiest men in the county these
days hustling around making prepa
rations for superior court.
Cotton is being rapidly marketed
by our farmers. The price of eight
cents, predicted by the Gazette some
months since, was reached yesterday,
and the market is lively and active.
'Die Star chronicles the fact that
Mr. W. M. Snead happened to the
misfortune of getting Ins arm broken
one day last week, caused by bis
mules running away anil throwing
him fr.in the wagon.

Immigration agents arc at work, and,
through their efforts, hundreds of
people will come here keeping before
the public the many advantages that
Georgia poscsses as a place of resi
dence during the winter months, and
as a home.
Most of the state newspapers seem
to have lost sight of this duty and
have at this early day entered into
political discussion. The state cam
paign will not open untif next spring,
and no necessity exists for goginning
the battle until the winter season
shall have closed. Politicians all
over the country have expressed
themselves in favor of short cam
paigns, and the Ti.Miis-AnvKimsuii
most heartily indorses them for this
state. Urgent work is on hand,
work that will prove more beneficial
to Georgia than co'imins devoted to
politics.
And after, the newspapers shall
have done all that they can do to aid
the forces at work in this direction,
by informing honic-scekcrs of the
character of the state and its inlmbi?
