Nuggets of Gold.
We take pleasure in acknowledg
ing the recept of a handsome crate of
Keiffer pears from our friend, Capt.
D. G. Irby, manager of the Cycloneta
Farm. We have seen many speci
mens of fine Keiffers this season, but
for size, beauty of coloring, and mel
low juiciness, these are the prize win
ners. So say the Gazettejorce unan
imously.
Specimens lying ou our desk are
suggestive of nuggets of gold, and if
our readers could sample them, they
would conclude that an orchard of
this fruit would be little less in value
than a gold mine.

Irwin Superior Court,
Irwin Superior court convened on
Wednsday morning last. Judge C.O.
Smith presiding,' and Solicitor Tom
Eason looking after the interest of
the state. - 1
The local and neighboring bars
were well represented and the busi
ness of the session rapidly dispatched.
Abofft 10 o,clock Judge Smith took
his seat, and after an able and
comprehensive charge to the grand
jury, the active work of the session
began.
Several civil cases were disposed
of the first day, and when this scribe
left, it was probable that an adjourn
ment would not be reached before the
last of the week.
NOTES.
The Gazette, Valdosta Times,
ITawkinsville Dispatch and Irwin
County News were among the news
papers represented.
The trial of the John Rigdon case
occupied the best part of the day
Wednesday.
Hon. Lott Warren is a candidate
to represent Irwin in the stato legis
lature. lie is one of the best men m
the county,‘is a native-born wiregrass
boy, and will do credit to the people
if lie is elected.
Jim Paul, who lias cast lii.s lot
with the Colquittitcs, was there look
ing over his old stamping ground.
Jim is the largest farmer of his size
in tlio state, and can beat the world j
raising pop corn.
The hotels and boarding houses j
were doing a rushing business, and
furnished foud recolleotion for a
hungry newpaper man.
A band of gypsies were plying
their trade, but, they can,t give the
average Irwin county farmer points
on a horse swap, while a phonograph
man was dividing the thing up with
the lawyers.
Irwin’s yeomanry were out in
torce, and it was, as it alway is, a
pleasure to meet them. I mot many
boy-hood friends while there, and
will long cherish memories of the
visit.
