The Ladies Aid Society realized
about $40, a Very handsome sum, at
their festival for the beuefit of the
Baptist church pew fund last Friday

E. C. Brooks, of St. Louis, Mo.,
has been spending a couple of
weeks in Tifton investigating the re
sources of this section, which he con

A young friend of ours by the
name of Mims,inear Ruby, killed, a
deer one day last week. It was his
first one, and his neighbors say he
has been unable to cat or sleep since,
but just keeps on hunting.
Jack W. Miller, accompanied by
his wife and little daughter, visited

pany, six miles west of Tifton, is pull
ing up pine trees (3‘2) inches in
diameter. Clears, witli two men and
yoke of oxen, more trees in one day
than same force can do the old way
in ten. Pulls five acres without mov

Messrs. Jerry Ilancocx and John
Price passed through Tifton Monday
last, on their way to Milledgeville
with Sam Williams, a negro lunatic.
Williams was a Hard-working, inof
fensive negro,bntfrom some unknown
cause became violently insane while
working near Ashburn one day last
week. - He was tried at Isabella and
adjudged insane, but gave those in
charge a great deal of trouble, mak
ing frantic efforts to escape. It is
said to have required the united cf-j
forts of half a dozen men to get him j

attended the Buffalo Bill show in

Rev. Osborne, a missionary
from Indian Territory, preached an
excellent sermon in Tifton lust Sun
day night. He will preach at New
River church tomorrow uud Sunday
morning, and in Tifton again Sun
day night.
Rumor has.it that our contractor,
John O'. Ilind, is to leave us, to eu-

Helena, about twenty miles east of
Swan. He is a good man and a good
