The elections in the northen states
Wednesday all went one way. Our
friends, the enemy, just walked up
and took everything in Night, and
what they didn’t see they asked for,
and took anyway.
The only gleam of light over the
gloomy horizon is the triumbh of
Tammany in Now York city by 41 ,-
000 majority, and the democratic
majority in Mississppi of !i0,000.
The republicans carry New York
State by 00,000 plurality.

Kvery reader of the Gazette should
visit the great,'Exposition at Atlanta,
One can see more there in two days
than iri two years travel, and much
that will be profitable. The facil
ities for handling the people are un
surpassed, and no annoyance is ex
perienced on account of the crowd.
Every thing is reasonable, and
there is no disposition on the part of
any one to “gouge”or to extort mon
ey, so far as the writer could tell.
In fact the reasonable charges for
every thing are a subject of uniyer-
sal remark. When you visit Atlan
ta you will not find any better place
to stop than the Hotel Victoria.
Every thing that politeness and care
ful attention to guests can accomplish
will be done for your comfort.
The Gazette man stoped there last
week and was made to feel good
by reason of attention paid him.
Attend the Exposition. You will
not regret the cost, and you will have
a more exalted opinion of your Cap
itol City, of your state arid of the
great government under which you
live.

The Cowan Property Sold.
Ashburn., Nov. 6.—The saw mill
property ut Woith was knocked' off
to Jas. M. Smith at $13,050. It is
not supposed that the court will con
firm the sule, as the price was too
low, and larger private offers have
been made. Nothing exciting oc
curred. About 50 men were at the
sale.

Mr. Ful wood’s growing legal prac

his reason for retiring from the real

On ami after January lflt, 1890, subRcriptions
to the Gazette will be invariably CASH IN AD-
VANCE, ThU applies to one anti all.
Our reason for adopting thin system Is that
fifteen years' experience in Wiregrass Georgia
journalism teaches us that, •
It is the fairest and best, both for publisher
ami patron;
Hy its strict enforcement, the subscriber has a
better paper, and the publisher more friends and
money;
It is unfair to send a man more goods than he
orders, and then expect him to pay for them;
It is the only means by which amicable and
fraternal relations can be maintained between
publisher and patron;
If the credit system will ruin any other busi
ness, where it is not accompanied by credit
prices*, then It will ruin the newspaper business
as well. Therefore, we drop It.
The paper, as it now stands, is a representative
one, both of this .city and section. It is worth
every cent of the money asked for it, and we in
tend to make it better icvery month. To those
who are willing to pay for it, we are anxious to
send it; we see nothing to be gained by forcing
it on oibers.
On the first day of January, wo shall drop
fropi our list all those In arears, an,l proceed to
collect the money, between now and then, our
representative will endeavor to see every sub
scriber, and wo tell y<)u now, in confidence, the
best way to get rid of him is to pay him up and
let him go, for ho has an abnormal appetite and
our instructions to stay until lie is paid, if he
lias to cat it out. Meanwhile, wo propose to give
you the newsiest paper Jn Southwest Georgia.

C ASH, Experience and proper Judgment, in buying is necessary to
obtain the best values. The word “Cash” has been hammered
into us bj experience along the Credit Path. Commencing our
present business, we adopted the cash system, which has been so satis
factory and so much better for ourselves and customers that we will
never buy or sell any other way. If you are traveling the credit path,
change your way at once—come over to our side, adopt the “Money
Down, Bargain System.” Why? Because the credit man pays thirty,
sixty, seventy, and one hundred per cent, profit, when the spot casli
buys at the small advance of ten per cent. See the difference?
MONEY talks, and implores you to stop the leaks with bargains
from our counters. Our store is constantly filled with customers who
realize they are buying at saving prices.
