THE GAZETTE: TIFTON.
Perry's visits over there are growing j
to be quite f/ftjuent and we may be!
called ujjpti at anytime to chronicle i
the ringing of marriage bolls.
The Sunday reboot at this place
will be reorganized next Sunday.'
This is a good step and we boj« to •
see a large attendance.
, The Christmas tree was a grand |
success, surpassing our fondest an
ticipations. The school house was
crowded to overflowing at an early
hour Tuesday evening, and as the cur
tains that obscured the tree roiled
back, thHe was an out-burst of ap
plause from the large audience. Kev.
W. I. Patrick.after a short but ap
propriate address, requested the audi
ence to rise, and with bowed headf,
he in a fervent prayer invoked the
divine presence. After this, old 8t.
Nicholas made his appearance, and
Mr. J. B. Gunn, m this role, did
himself proud. Few who knew this
quiet business man could realize that
the jocular Santa Claus was he. The
distribution of the presents was at
tended with exclamations of surprise
and delight, attesting that many
hearts were made glad, livery child
in tho community wus remembered,
and your correspondent received some j
“goobers” a most appropriate gift,!
for if there is one thing we are proud {
of it is the fact of being a “goober j
grabbler.” The tree was a success, j
and reflects much credit upon the!
committee of arrangements.
BROOKFIELD.
The good people of this hamlet
celebrated by a grand Xmas tree, to
which everybody was invited. Social
parties at the residences of Mrs.
Ithodes and W.D.Wilkcrson were some
of the features of the week, it is
queer that Vvalter lieynolds and Hen
ry Hayes, of Enigma, spent Xmas in
Brookfield, and John Patterson
and Eugene Wilkinson from here
were frequent visitors to Enigma.
Thus it is, the humun mind is con
stantly seeking for fairer forms
uud scenes. It. L. Bowen, Charley
Guest and W. A. McCofough, of
Tifton, were down here with dog and
gun making the welkin ring. Noth
ing, however small, occurred in this
neighborhood of an unpleasant na
ture. The same state of affairs exists
all over the countv. Peace and qui
etude reign supreme throughout the
county.
ALABAMA NOTES.
This quiet little oity spent her
Xmas quietly, nothing ocontrlng
down thero to mar the pleasant holi
days.
Tho town lost one of its fairest
young ladies iu the person of Miss
Stella Raker, who was married to
Prof. W. F. Hill, of Forsyth, on the
19th lust. Mr; M. T. Paulk and
Miss Henrietta Matthis were also
married since our last issue. The
morchnntg report a good Xmas trade
but dull during the closing days of
tho week.
