The republican convention for the

Jim Griggs would carry Berrien
county by u large majority if the

Brantley has declined to run
against Turner in the Eleventh, which
shows Brantley’s judgment.
The world who laughed at his
quaint humor, drops a tear of admi
ration and regret on Bill Nye’s bier.
A train load of 200 negroes, hound

Fitzsimmons passed through At

Weyler, the Spanish general in
Cuba, has issued a proclamation mak
ing the insurgents outlaws, and con

The cost to the state has only been

The rtthtc meeting of the Georgia

A paragraph going the rounds of
lliu papers as a communication ad
dressed to a Philadelphia Farmei’s
Club is an extract from one of Gill
Eye’s letters published last summer,
exactly as condensed and published
in the Gazette at that time, with due
credit.
Homo of his sound money friends
do not exactly agreo with Judge
Griggs’ views on the silver question,
Tifton needs a volunteer fire de
partment, and needs it bad. It needs
it now.
The safety of our lives and prop
erty demands it. The dry, windy
days of early spring remind us that
we lie at the mercy of the fiory-ton-
gued fiend, who may, at any time re
duce our homes to ashes and leave
our little ones shelterless.
It only needs some one to start the
ball to rolling to secure the hearty co
operation of our citizens. The cost
of the engine and furnishings would
soon be amply repaid in decreased
insurance rates, and we could sleep
sounder and safer at night
What say you, gentlemen?
It is about time for the announce
ments of candidates for the various
county offices, and in the near future
we expect to see a number of aspi
rants lor those places and have the
plensure(?jof shaking their patriotic
(?jhands. These gentlemen are only
aware of the fact about onco every
two years that this section of the
county is in the county at all, or that
it has a voting population worth
mentioning. Wo presume, that as
usual, they will give as about half
the tickets to print, which is worth
all wo charge, and then for the priv
ilege of doing this work expect us to
say #1f>0 worth of nice things, about
which our conscience will perhaps
hurt us for the next ten years. All
this, of course, cannot ho taken as
personal to any one, because no one
lias as yet sent us a V to pay for an
announcement, and wo are not sup
posed to know whp wauls our suff-
'rago until ibis is done. Wo would
say', just bore, that our district will

Neck—Hood’s Cured.
“ For two year* I haro been atek, having
been confined to the house for a year. I
have had eczema for nine years, having
(killed physicians, but received no benefit.
Lost winter I caught cold and became
Afflicted With Rheumatism,
which put me on crutches. Last July I
commenced to use Hood’s Sarsaparilla, and
before I had finished one bottle I laid the
crutches aside. After taking two bottles
the eczema had left me and I was almost
entirely free from the effects of a swelled
neck. I know that it was Hood’s Harsapa-
rilln that cured me and I think It cannot

Everything points to the foot that
Berrien will send a congressman to
Washington this fall, an honor that
has never before been confurod up

they are laying aside their opinions

turned the tide in his favor, and gives
him enough votes to assure his nom
