DISTRICT DEMOCRATIC EX
ECUTIVE COMMITTEE.
Albany, Ga, April 28, 1890.
To the Member* of the Democratic Executive
Committee for the Second Congrc*ional District
of Georgia.
You are requested to meet at my
office, in Albany, on Saturday the 6th
day of May, 1890, at noon, for the
purpose of naming the time and
place for holding the Democratic
Convention to nominate a candidate
>for the Fifty-Fifth Congress from
this District, and to attend to such
other matters as the welfare of the
party demands.
I have called Saturday for your
meeting to accommodate Judge
Spence, one of our members, who
cannot meet with us at any other
time.
A full attendance is requested.
R. Hobbs,
Oh’rn. Dem, Ex. Com. 2nd Con.
Dia, of Georgia.
It is a puny and pusillanimous
argument to chargo an opponent with
“selling out.” It has been the slo
gan of populists, agitators and dem
agogues for decades past, and we are
surprised to see a staid old demo
cratic father in Israel resorting to it.
It is prima facie evidence, if not a
confession of weakness, and a noto
rious fact that a corrupt heart is the
first to suspect, as tho thief has a
personal object in raising a hue and
cry in order to direct atttention
away from himself. It is a resort
that no man of principle will adopt
unless ho has evidence to substanti
ate it. Along this lino, it occurs to
us to remind Mcddlosomo Matties that
there are more ways than one of sub
sidizing tho press, and that few pa
pers in the Second district liavo been
subsidized by a fat government
ofiiee.

Mr. J. G. McPhaul, of Poulan, has
received the bronze medal and

It is a very handsome medal, and
that there are not more of them in

This section of South Georgia is
gotting no better advertising than
through the monthly time tables that
arc issured by the enterprising man
agement of the Georgia Southern and
Florida railroad. The last one is a
handsomely printed book of 72 pages
convenient size for the pocket, and
giving full and comprehensive time
tables from all northern and western,
well as local points. Following
these',' is a 46 page diacriptive of
South Georgia and Florida—its fruits,
grapes, and truok farms, and accu
rately compiled statistics of tho cli
mate, fell and resources of the county.
The Gazette will have its picnic
editor here in a few days. He will
edit all the picnics, barbecues and
politick! assemblies of this section,
with promptness and dispatch. He is
handsome and dignified, will reflect
credit on both the Gazette and the
occasion, and your affair will not be
complete without him.
The last edition of the Plant Sys

in the advertising matter of the de
cade. It is full of handsome illus
