has been awarded the government
contract for deepening the bar and
harbor of the seaport town of Aran
sas Pass, Texas. The amount of the
contract is $500,000.

in the game laws made at the last
Session of the legislature. The sports
men of tho state found that the open
season was too long, resulting in the
destruction of too many birds, and
through their efforts the law was
changed. Heretofore tho season
opened October 1st and continued
until April, but under the new law
the season remains closed until
November 1st, which means that it is
unlawful te kill any of tho game
birds front April 1st until November
1st.
The following is tho text of tho
amendment ac^:
Be it enacted by tiie general assem
bly of tho state of Georgia, and it is
hereby enacted by authority of the
same, that from and after the pas
sage of this act, entitled an act to
amend an act to protect game in the
state of Georgia during certain sea
sons, and nproved December 20th,
1803, so as to more fully protect
game in the stato to make said act
amended uniform, to prohibit sale
of game in certain seasons, to pro-'
scribe penalties for tho violation of
this act, and for other purposes, bo
amended by striking out the word
“October, in the twelfth line of sec
tion first of said act and inserting in
lieu thereof the word “November,” so
that section, when amended, shall
read as follows: Bo it enacted by
tho general assembly of Georgia, that
the above reoitod act bo, and tho
same is heroby amended by striking
out all tho sections and provisions of
said act occdring after tho words
authority of the same,’ in,fourth line
of first section, inserting in lieu of
said stricken section and provision as
follows;That from and after tho pas
sage of this act it shall be unlawful
for any person to shoot, trap, kill,
ensnare, net or destroy in nny man
ner wild turkey, pheasant, snipe,
partridge, or any insectivorous or
singing bird, except English sparrows,
crows, larks, Heo birds, wheat birds
and doves in any county in tho stato
between tho 1st day of April and tho
1st day of November of any year;
and as to doves, it shall be unlawful
for any person to trap, kill, otisnaro
or destroy any dovo in this state be
tween the—day of April and the 16th
day of July iu any year ; and it shall
bo unlawful for any person to sell or
offer for sale any wild deer, wild
turkey, pheasant, snipe, partridge or
other game birds killed, destroyed,
caught or ensnared in this stato
within the date aforesaid in violation
of the provisions of this not.

and parts of laws in coflict witli this

Mrs. Henderson, the beloved wife
of Mr. G. G. Henderson, of Colquitt
county, died on the 14th instant.
Speaking of her deatli the Moultrie
Observer says: “Mrs. Henderson
was a woman of fine ebaructer.
Possessing every truit of pure and
true womanhood. She was u devo
ted Christian and hud been « mem
ber of the Baptist church for a num
ber of years. She was born in Cof
fee county in the year 1860 and was
a daughter of Rev. John Vickers a
prominent minister of tho gospel in
that county. She was thirty-six
years old and the mother of uino
children, seven of whom stiff live.
Those who knew her best loved her
most, and she was a woman of whom
it could be truly said, to know her
was to love her. In her death her
husband loses a most devoted wife,
her children lose a fond and affec
tionate mother, aud tho community
loses a peace maker. Her remains
were filtered in the cemetery at
Plesant Grove church surrounded by
a host of friends.”
