J. Clements, of Irwinville, Ga., on
Monday, 5th inst., Mr. J. S. Croup
and Miss Orphia May Martin, both
of Fitzgerald, Ga., were married, Rev.

Mr. Barnie Conguar, a well known
citizen of Worth county, died on
Wednesday of last week, of typhoid
fever, lie was an honest, open-
hearted nnm, and leaves a large fam
ily, to mourn his death. He was
bom in Irwin comity.
Mr. G. G. Ford, democrat, was
elected to the legislature from
Worth county over Joseph L. Sum
ner, populist, by a majority of even
200. Mr. Sumner was elected J,by
the populists two years ago. Atkin
son ran 200 votes behind the state
ticket.

a correspondent of the Telegraph

The Valdosta correspondent of the
Savannah News raised the ouestion
of why is Georgia Sea Island cotton
discriminated against in favor of
the Florida cotton. He says that
several merchants have found it
profitable to ship cotton to points in
Florida and re-ship it, getting two to
three cents more per pound for it.
Everything in and about this col
ony is moving along nicely. There
are more new buildings going up on
the 5 10 and 20-acre tracts than ever
before, while the improvements in
the city are going ahead with no “let
up” to it. Trade is fairly good in
ull lines, and generally speaking the
people are contented and happy.—

Marion Nelson, an aged citizen of
Valdosta, was brutally assaulted by a
negro carpenter named Huzell, who

to this office on last Monday one ear
of corn weighing one pound, one
cotton boll with thirteen locks, one
cotton stalk about four feet high
and containing one hundred well

Fitzgerald to manufacture Georgia
