was admitted to practice at the bar
at* the last session of Dougherty
superior court.
Three negroes burglarised the storo
of Mr. Kitchen, at Vrldosta, Sunday
night, and were run down by dogs
and captured the next day.

Willie Frazier, a young white man
living near Moultrie, was thrown
from a hand car on the Pinopolis
railroad Sunday and instantly killed.

Mrs. Brown, daughter of Mr. A.
M. Shaw, of Berrien, died at her
home in Valdosta Sunday lust Her
remains were brought to Berrien for
interment.
The home of Mr. Ed Holmes, in
Moultrie, was destroyed by fire one
day lestjweek, with $1,300 in money.
About hulf the loss, estimated at
$3,500, is covered by insurance.
The plant of tbe Colquitt County
Cooperage Co. at Moultrie was de
stroyed by fire Sunday morning, sup
posed lo have been tbe work of an
incendiary. It was fully insured.
A negro inan at HttTrisonviUe, in
settlement gratis, he has made 400
gallons of brandy. The Observer
says he has twenty-five acres of
broom straw that will be ripe in
November.
Mr. Wm. 1). Buie was admitted to
practice at the bar at Nashville last
week, as well as Mr. S. B. Paulk, as
already ^ mentioned. Both young
men stood creditable examinations,
and the Gazette wishes them success.
The Local is requested to announce
that Judge J. M. Griggs will speak
in Sylvester on Friday, October 30,
and 1 will divide the lime with Hon.
J. A. Sibley, if so desired. Every
body is invited to come out and hear

A petition lias been sent to Pres
ident Cleveland, asking him to par
dou Luther A. Hall of Dodge county,
sent to Sing Sing for life for conspir
acy a few years since. He is said to
have dropsy of the heart, and liable
to fall dead at any moment
Saturday night of last week Sea
born Jones, a young man, boarded
the. night train at Lenox for Rich-
wood. Next morning his body was
found by the side of the track with
in one hundred yards of Richwood.
It is supposed he slipped and fell.

Mr. Wiley Fletcher, of this comity
while moving a barn on Tuesday of
last week, was seriously hurt by a
shed falling upon him. Dr. Taylor
was immediately summoned and,
after a careful examination, pro
nounced his injuries serious, but not
necessarily fatal. The News joins
with his many friends in hoping for
him a safe and speedy recovery.—

Jack Wright, a well known me
chanic living in Albany, was shot
and seriously wounded by his broth-
cr-in-law, Mr. J. B. Paul, at the lat
ter’s home seven miles from Albany
Monday at noon. Mr, Wright and
his wife have been separated for
soma time and she has been living
with her mother. Wright has raised
several rows trying to get his wife
back, and it was while in a drunken
effort to carry off his child .Monday
that he was shot.

The Presbytery of Savannah met
in regular fall session at Poulan, Ga.,
Oot. 15th, at 7:30 p. ni.
Rev. W. A. Nisbet, of Savannah,
preached the opening sermon.

Presbytery proceeded to business. Li
centiates R. A. Brown, of Orange
Presbytery, N. C., and Clias. Mont

after satisfactory examination, were
both received and regularly ordained,
Steps were taken to install Mr. Browu
pastor at Waycross, and Mr. Mont
gomery pastor at Mt. Vernon and
Vidalia. Rev. J. P. Marion was, at
his own request, dismissed to Bethe
Presbytery, S. C., and Rev. M. Mc-
Gillioray was likewise dismissed to
Macon Presbytery.
The committee on Home Missions
made a very satisfactory aud encour
aging report and a special meeting in
that interest was held.

A negro was killed by Mr. B. F,
Ellington at Ruby one night
last week. Mr. Ellington heard a
noise, at his lot and, on investigation,
found a negro inside, lie culled to
him twice to know what lie was do
ing and got no aiiRWer, but at tiie
second call the negro ran toward him.
Mr. Ellington fired, the bull striking
the negro in the eye, killing him
instantly. The negro wus a stran
ger and been loafing uround Chula
for several days.
