WB IT Will THE HARVEST BE ?
Hon. M. Henderson, county com
mlnioner for Irwin, has become as-
mnated with Mr. J. W. Hanlon, in
the publication of the Ocilla Dlt-
patch. He ia one of Irwin’a beat
and strongest men, and the combina
tion makes n excellent team.
It is a matter of much speculation
among the qcquaintancea o’ these
two gentlemen now ns to how that
old dispute will be settled. Each
has a complexion that popular suppo
sition closely associates with the
kitchen, and for years the controversy
between them, doubtlessly arising
from jealousy, as to who was the
darkest, has waxed warm, and enough
lily white, plantation horn combs and
other toilet articles have been ex-
changed between them for Christmas
and birthday presents to stock
small store. That old gag about Bah
going to a dark place has been worked
nntil it is threadbare, and frequently
one refused to shake hands with or
sit down in the room with the other
on scoount of his color. Xus always
claimed that Judge had the advant
age of him, because he had a news-
paper, and it has been the ambition
of Nae’ life to own a newspaper also,
and get even. Bnt now, oh, Irony of
fate, that his dreams at last bear
fruit, the Judgo is yoked to the tongue
with him I
An iuterestiug phase of this cele
brated controversy has perhaps never
been published: One day, while Ed
itor Hanlon was publishing the Quit-
man Sun, Mr. Henderson was return
ing from the stole flrand Lodge,
where he had, as for a number of
years, represented the Ocilla Lodge,
F, *fc A • M. On the train with him
was a prominent Mason from Quit-
man, arid. during the Conversation,
Mr. Henderson remarked:
“The negroes must he pretty intel
ligent and well organised around
your town.”
“Not unusually so,” replied the
Quitman gentleman, “Why do you
think so?”
“Oh, I see yon have a paper pub
lished by a colored mao.”
“No, I guesa not; I never heard of
it. if there is,” said the surprised
.Quitinuuitc.
"Yes there is. I have met its edi
tor. Lets see—his paper’s name is—
