Douglas, Ga., Feb. 0.—News reach
ed Dougins last night that Marie
Sibbeo, a Greek woman peddler of
•mall notions, who has lor a year or
more been vending her wares through
Coffee county, was on last Tuesday
evening, about four miles from Phil
lip’s mill, robbed, outraged and beat
en into insensibility, then dragged to
a bay or swamp and left for dead by
a black brute. She lay out all night
in an unconscious condition, and
from the rough treatment received
and exposure to cold she is not ex
peeled to survive.
.She dragged herself to the road
next day, where she was found, and
kind citfxenH are giving her all pos
sible aid. She says she could re-
cognize her assailant if confronted by
him; that she begged him to take her
money and goods and spare her life
and her honor, but to no avail. Every
effort will be made to capture this
devil in human form, and if captured
and fully identified Judge Lynch will
most probably preside at his trial.
The negroes are loud in their <
damnation of the crime, and express
a desire to take a hand in the punish
ment if the brute is captured.
