The State Democratic Gubemato-
rial Convention met in Atlanta
Wednesday, June 29th.
The session was a very quiet and
harmonious oue, the people having
settled all the vexing questions at
the polls on the 6tb of June.
F. G. duBignon was made chair
man, and accepted in a characteristic
and ringing speech. The ticket, as
selected at the primary, was then
unanimously nominated, (Jol. Can
dler accepting in a strong speech.
The platform, as adopted, recog
nizes a jnst cause in the war with
Spain, and urges congress and the
administration to leave nothing un
done to push it to a speedy and suc
cessful termination ; favors the Nica- i
raguan canal; endorses the Chicago j
platform ; commends the state com
mittee for its action in regard to pri
maries ; assures Hon. W. J. Bryan of
the party’s esteem and confidence;

Mr. Joe I. Gilbert, of Albany, gets

The Waycross Journal has a hand

paper, not editor—his was handsome
enough already.
Spain is said to have discovered a
new explosive. It was probably
hatched in one of those interesting
cabinet meetings.
The weekly.crop bulletin says rains
have been general all over the state,
and that the crop of watermelons and
late peaches will be plentiful.
It is foolish to consider a republi-

ful criminals, and recommends ade
quate pensions for all confederate
veterans and their widows.
Of the new executive committee
elected, K. Hobbs, of Albany, and
J. L. Boynton, of Calhoun, represent
the Second congressional district.
