The burrinano of Sunday, only the
fag end of which was felt here, and
| which did considerable damage to
open cotton and growing cano in this
section, wa# fearful its consequences
along tile coast.
A tidal wave, trom ten to twenty
feet high, swept everything before it,
and the destruction was terrible. In
Savannah the loss w.is not so heavy,
and only one fatality is reported, hut
it ia feared tiiero was great loss of
lifo among the islands along the coast.
Tho rice crop is almost totally destroy
ed.
All trains wero stopped on tho F,
C, A P. railroad, tile road-bod being
under water. Tho road-bed of tho
B. & W'., between tho 14-milo-post
and Brunswick was washed out, and
all trains on that road only ran to
Wayeross the first of tho week.
AU wires to Brunswick are down,
and communication is exceedingly
difficult.
A Brunswiok special to the Morn
tag News says that a tidal wavo was
driven in from the sea and inundatod
for an averago dopth of flvo feet
praolically every business bouse and
warehouse in the city. Conservative
estimates place tbo property loss at
half a million dollars.
The Mailorv Steamship and South
ora Bail way nooks were under water
four feet. In tho residence section
of tho city tho water was from two to
eight feet. There was a full sweep
of wind and water from the oocan
into and aorosa the city.
Two fatalities in Brunawiok. and
ono a few miles out of the city have
been reported. Those In the city
wero negro children. A few miles
out of town Storitt Aiken, colored,
was killed by falling brloks blown
from a ohimnoy.
. Meager reports from the soa islands
on the coast are far from reassuring.
At Jekyl Island, much damage
was done, ■ and Plxville, a suburb of
Brunswick, inhabited by negroes, was
inundated, and tho 'destruction is al
most complete. No lives were lost.
Five vossola wero ashore in Bruns
wick harbor, two being Norwegian
barks, one an Amcriosn schooner,
and two valuable pilot boats.
On the doeka was from one to two
hundred thousand feet of lumber and
. Orosstics, and hundreds ot barrels of
naval stores, which will be washed
away.
While the water was doing its
damage underneath, the wind wit
playing havoc overhead. Several
fronts ol brick buildings were blown
partly out, and the rain poured

All electrio wire, were prostrated.
Fires in locomotives in and near the

sheets of water.
The highest tide that ever roae at
TWandina was experienced Sunday.
Many bouses were flooded over the
first floor and. there was water in
aomo of the stores as high as tho

nier, was killed early this morning by
Soott Beaton. It seems that both
were unarmed when tho quarrel star-
ted. Lamer ia said to have told Bea
ton he was going to send for a re
volver and kill him. Beaton man
aged to get possession of a revolver,
and when Lanier entered the store
again the killing occurred.
