Mr. G. S. Nelson has moved his
family from Sparks, where his chil
dren attended the spring term of
school, hack to their home near Ty

Carrier Sykes, of Route No. 1, and
Carrier Warren, of Route No. 2,
from Ty Ty, were in Tifton Wed
nesday, tbat day being legal holiday
for the carriers, banks and govern*
inont employes.
At the last meeting of the board
of directors of the Merchants’ and
Farmers’ Bank, Mr. J. T. Larkin was
elected assistant cashier. Mr. Lar*
kin has been with the Citizens' Bank
for some time, and his selection is
quite a testimonial to his ability.
Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Newton spent
Sunday in Atlanta with the latter’s
father, Capt. H. F. Newton, who re
cently underwent a serious opera
tion. His many friendB through
this section will be glad to learn
that he is apparently on the road to
recovery.
Teck Jones, colored, was arrested
by Chief Coarsey last week, on re
quest of the Valdosta police, under
suspicion of being the party who
burned the steam laundry in that
city. He was afterwards releasod,
the evidence not being sufficient to
wariant his detention.
Col. C. W. Fulwood, besides his
law practice and large iron foun
dry interests, finds time to dovote a
good deal of energy to bee culture,
which he finds both pleasant and
profitable. He now has 21 colonies
of Italian bees, in 8-frame Hoffman
hives, and from one colony has sold
$G.20 worth of honey this season.
Messrs. J. J. Golden and W. W.
Timmons returned Saturday, and
Mayor Clyatt and S. S. Monk Sun
day, from a two week’s trip to Col
orado. On the trip they were the
guests of a party of promoters of
mining property, and were the re
cipients of many courtesies. They
were delighted with the trip and
the many experiences, as well os the
scenery in the great national park.
Dr. George M. Mitchell left Mon
day for Tifton, Ga., where he has
decided to locate for practicing med
icine. He is a graduate of the At
lanta College of Physicians and Sur
geons, and on account of his close
application to his studies, his devo
tion to the profession, his ambition
to succeed and his exemplary char
acter, he is splendidly equipped for
his life Work. He is a young man
who will unquestionably succeed,

ercises at Andersonville Wednesday,
going by way of Fitzgerald.
Mr. N. T. > Peeples, of Nashville,
passed through Tifton Tuesday, en
route home from Senoia, where he
accompanied Mrs. Peeples, who will
spend a few days at her old home.
Rev. J. C. Flanders, of Moultrie,
was in Tifton Wednesday, on his
way to his old home near Rhine,
where he expects to preach two ser
mons next Sunday in the church
where he first attended Sunday
school.
Dr. W. L. Pickard, of Lynchburg,
Va., is tbe guest of his brother, Mr.
J. L. Pickard, in Tifton, for a few
days. Dr. Pickard arrived Wednes
day morning from Forsyth, where
he preached the commencement ser
mon at Monroe Sunday to a large
audience.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cole, of Bir
mingham, Ala., are valuable addi
tions to Tifton’s citizenship. Mr.
Cole is with Garrett A Gaulding,
and they are making their home
with Mr.' and Mrs. J. Willard Gauld
ing. Mrs. Cole is a sister of Mrs.
Gaulding.
Speaking of the commencement
exercises of Vienna public schools,
the News says: "Sunday morning
the commencement sermon was de
livered by Rev. P. A. Jessup, of Tif
ton, at the school building. A large
crowd was present. The sermon was
very appropriate and was full of
good, sound logic.”
Mr. W. M., Gidden8, who is cap
tain for the Tifton club of the Fris
co and Kansas City Southern Colo
nization Co., has received notice
from headquarters tbat transporta
tion has been furnished him to at
tend the opening at Ashdown on
June 20th. 21st, 22nd and 23rd. Mr.
Giddens will leave Tifton in time to
catch the excursion train that leaves
Birmingham for Ashdown Junes 19.
While walking on tbe back porch
of the cottage Mr. E. B. O’Neal is
building on Park avenue yesterday
afternoon, Mrs. O’Neal stepped on a
loose plank and fell a distance of
about four feet. In tbe fall, one of
the bones of her left foot was broken,
although she escaped further injury.
She was given prompt medical at
tention, and while suffering acutely,
her many friends hope there will bo
no permanent injury.
Wednesday morning Weaver, the
9-year-old son of Mr. It. W. Terrell,
was playing with some men at work
near a vat of slacked lime, when a
young negro man playfully picked
him up, saying he would drop
him into the rat. The ground
was wet and the negro’s foot slipped,
causing the little boy’s faeo to fall
into the lime, severely burning his
face and eyes. Prompt medical at
tention was given and no serious re
sults are feared.

Mr. Neal, arrived from Shiloh, Ga.,
Tuesday afternoon, nnd will spend

Mrs. C. L. Parker wont up to Ma
con Saturday to meet a brother wlio
lives in Texas, and whom she had
not seen for ten years. Several of
the family met at tile home of anoth
er brother in that city and held
quite a family reunion.
