Mr. Patten, representing the Souti

Schedules on the Atlanta, Bir
mingham and Atlantic Saturday
were all off, owing to a wreck of the
north bound passenger train at
Touraine Friday night, where the
locomotive and first car were ditch
ed by the track spreading. A wreck
ing train sent out from Fitzgerald
was derailed north of Tiftoo and to
complicate the situation, part of the
wires were down. Schedules were
resumed Saturday night.

was in Tifton Tueeday.
Mr. W. 8. Marrow was over from
Doeran Sunday to see Mrs. Murrow
and baby.
Mr. M. W. Purvis returned to his
home in Brunswick Tuesday after-
noon, after spending several days in
Tifton and vicinity.
Mr. Heber Kent has charge of the
yards of the Tifton Terminal Co.,
under SupL Hall, filling the position
formerly held by Mr. E. W. Reed.
Mr. C. M. Shackelford, one of the
old guard of Albany’s staunch busi
ness men, was in Tifton Monday,
returning from a trip to Ocala, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mathis and
baby went down to Adel Tuesday
afternoon, to spend several days
with Mrs. Mathis' father, Mr. H. K.
Hutchinson, and family.
Mr. E. E. Slack left Sunday mom-
ing for a ten dayB’ visit to his old
home in Ontario, Canada. He went
by way of Buffalo, taking advantage
of the T. P. A. rates.
Mr, TV. A. Pope has moved his
family from Lake City, Fla., to Tif
ton and si occupying a oottago
on the Heights. They are former
eitizene of Tifton, and are cordially

Dr. W. L. Sikes, of Sylvester, ac
companied by his son, Frank, were
in Tifton for a few hours Monday,
on their way to Moultrie, where
they went to consult a specialist for
an affection of one of the young
man’e eyes.
Rev. H. W. Parrish, of Adel,
in Tifton Saturday, on hie way to
Worth county, to fill hie regular ap
pointment. Mr, Parrish contem
plates disposing of hiB interests near
Adel and moving to Tifton, whero
he will bo heartily welcomed.
Mr, W. F. Rudisill passed through
Tifton Monday, on his way to Adel,
where he has accepted the Georgia
Southern and Florida agency. Mr.
Rudisill is one of tho moot experi
enced railroad men in this section
and with the remarkable develop
ment in this industry, his rapid pro-

Mr. E. L. Vickers lectured to a
large audience of eolored people, be

Phillipsburg Monday, on “The Col
ored Man’s Opportunity." His thor
ough acquaintance with the subject
made his lecture a very profitable
one to his hearers. He will give
them another talk in tho near future,
and in the meantime has promised
to oeil and paint their church, which
hoe just been finished.

Two wagon loads of furniture
were carried out to the new home of
the Ferry Lake Fishing Club last
week. President McCrea has chris
tened the new club house the Hotel
de Ferry, and early in the week a
committee of three was appointed
to go out with a force of hands and
clean up the house and grounds.
They spent several days, bnt tho
president says the cleaning is not
yet finished. Rations must also
have been scarce, os one of the par
ty, while trying to catch a hog, fell
and dislocated hi* shoulder.
Board of Trade Meeting.
The Board of Trade convened in
called meeting Friday evening, June
28th, and was called to order by the
president at 8:30.
The minutes of the previous meet
ing were road by the secretary, nnd
adopted aa read.
The committee on streets, roads
and parks, through its chairman, S.
G. Slaok, make a report on street
sprinkler, whioh Mr. Slack stated
would coat about $835, delivered
hero. He also stated that tho com
mittee bad reoeived pledges of about
$63 per month to pay operating ex
penses, and thought they would
easily raise the necersory amount,
$78 or $80 per month, as all the
business men bad not been seen.
Prof. Soarboro moved that the re
port be accepted, and that tho com
mittee be instructed to confer with
the oounoil in regard to the city
buying tho sprinkler, and in cn»e of
their refusal, that the committee be
empowered to raise the necessary
amount and mnke the purchase of
the Bprinkler at once. Mayor Clyatt
offered to oall a speoial meeting of
council to consider the matter, if
necessary. Motion was seconded
and duly carried.
Tho committee on postal and tele
graph service, A. P. Jones, chair
man, reported that their efforts to
secure additional mail service over
the Atlantio Coast Line, between
Albany and Brunswiok, had beon
successful, and that the service
would be inaugurated June 11th.
The committee on roads, etreeis
and parks, Mr. Slack, chairman,
asked for more timo on the park mat
ter, which was granted.
The entertainment committee re
ported that the city council had
agreed to put in a drinking trough
for stock on euob side of town.
Prof. Soarboro reported that in
the alley between Love avenue and
Central avenue, about back of C. C.
Guest's, there was a well flanked on
each side by a oloset, which was un
doubtedly a menace to health. The
secretary waB instructed to report
the matter to the Board of Health,
,nd ask that the well be filled up.
The committee on express, rail
road and transportation service, Col.
Dinsmore, chairman, reported that
they hnd conferred with Mr. Weltch
in rogard to an up-town express of
fice, but found that Mr. Weltch
could do nothing but make a report
back to buadquarters. Several suit
able locations were suggested, and
S he secretary instructed to take the
ratter up with Mr. Hockaday. Tho
’committee asked for more time on
the electrie fight question, on the
railroad crossings,which was granted.
President Herring stated that
Postmaster Duff believed that by-
July 1st Tifton would be entitled to
a free city delivery of mail, and if
each proved to be the ease, the mat
ter would be taken up by the Board
of Trade at its next meeting.
There was some discussion of an
amendment to the constitution re
ducing the quorum to five, so that
business could be transacted more
expeditiously, but ns such amend
ment could only be made at a regu
lar mooting, the matter was left until
the next meeting.
There boing no further business,
the Board adjourned.

place. The company has timber
enough now to run it livo or six
years. Mr. Padrick will remain in

the future be known as The Killian
