Chesterfields go
one step further
REPORT
There are, perhaps, over 800 brands of ciga
rettes sold in this country today. But not one
of them does what Chesterfields do, for Chester
fields satisfy—and yet they’re mild!
This truly unique cigarette has all of that
refreshing taste-delicacy which any good ciga
rette must have.
SHIP BUILDING ACTIVE
Yet, without sacrificing any of this delightful
mildness, Chesterfields go one step f urther—they
do more than merely “please your taste"—they
let you know you’ve been smoking! They satisfy!
—and yet they’re mild!

To the Tift County Board of Health
for the Month of August, 1916
By A. G. Fort, M.D., District Com
missioner of Health.
As provided by Act of the General
Assembly of Georgia, approved Aug.

have, by action of two successive
Grand Juries, with the consent of
the Georgia State Board of Health
and the action of the Boards of
Health of Irwin and Tift counties,
formed a sanitary district and en
gaged the services of a District Com
missioner of Health. In compliance
with this Act I submit to the Tift

August, 1035. Total, 1668.
This does not include those report
ed as inoculated by the physicians
but are those actually inoculated by
the District Commissioner of Health,
Slow Fever.
Three cases, one of which came
fiom a neighboring county.
Malaria.
50 cases have been reported,
of these in north western portion of
County. 10 in and around Tifton.
16 specimens of blood have been
examined for the malaria parasite,
15 showed none; 1 showed the
tertian type.
Measels.
None reported for August.
Whooping Cough.
Two cases in and around Tifton
reported.

Educational.
Article “Typhoid Vaccination or
Inoculation’’ printed in The Gazette.
Report for June and July printed
in the Gazette.
16 letters on Scarlet Fever written
to parties interested.
REMARKS.
Approximately one person out of
every three will have typhoid or
slow fever during their life, 1568
different persons have been inoculat
ed against these diseases, excluding
those reported by the physicians. An
average of one out of every ten who
has typhoid dies from it. $200 ex
pense for each case is considered an
average. Thus we find that if we
continue the vaccinations begun we
will prevent 532 cases of typhoid and
53 deaths. Make your own calcula
tions from a financial standpoint.
The humanitarian standpoint appeals
to me more than the financial.
One physician reported 39 cases
for July and August. This was alarm
ing and I investigated. The gen
tleman had treated that number hut
38 were in an adjoining county an «
only one in Tift.
Many have the ideal that we va i]
cinate again?t Malaria. This d'ji
ease is caused by an animal parasi,^|
and there is no vaccine against same.
Scarlet fever has made itself man
ifest. We do not know the places
from which it was spread. One case
developed immediately after a visit
to Atlanta. We can vaccinate against
this disease but the results are a less
ening of the severity of the attack.
Those desiring to go into the State
of South Carolina accompanied by
children under 16 years of age ha'n
best secure health certificates. Th«
question of what we must do relative
to Infantile Paralysis was taken up
with the State Board of Health more
than two weeks ago and as yet we
have received no reply.
Respectfully submitted,
A. G. Fort,
District Ccirmivnoner of Health.

Asked if there was any uneasiness
