FUld Tuesday Afternoon.
Mr. James R. Owens, a farmer
and well known citizen of Tift coun
ty, who lived about 6 miles south
west of tifton in th e Doeia district,
dropped dead in hia. Held Tuesday
afternoon obout 2 o'clock.
Mr. Owens seamed in perfect
health, and ate a hearty dinner, but
dropped dead In his field soon after
returning to work, He was buried
Salem cemetery Wednesday after
noon at 5 o'clock, the services be
ing conducted by Rev. Lindsey.
Mr. Owens was 81 years old. In
early manhood he married Miss Em
ily Willis and to this union ten chil
dren were bom. One, Barney, is
dead, and nine, with their mother,
survive him. The children are T. A.
and L. C. Owens, of Tlfti A. J. and
J 1 . H. Owens, of McRae; H. G. Ow
ens, of Juliette; Mrs. Lizzie Salter,
of Juliette; Mrs. Nancy Heath, of
Doe run; Mrs. Pleaay Weeks and
Mias Sarah Owens, of Tift.
Mr. Owens was , neighbor of Mr.
James W. Miller, who dropped dean
' almost at the same hour. These two
deaths followed next day after that
of Mr. Charles W. Jones, of the
Barge section, who was found dead
in hia bed Monday morning.
Mr. J. B. Wood, of Rout,. 4, was
visitor to the city Saturday.
