LIBEL FOR DIVORCE
-Vallejo, Cal., July 9.—Nine are known to have been
killed and forty injured by the explosion of a back powder
t-agazine at the Mare Island Navy Yard early this morn
ing.
Washington. July 9.—Further delay in the drafting of a
nfillion odd men was evident today when it was announced
that only sixteen states and the District of Columbia had com
pleted their preparations for drawing. Tennessee, Virginia,
Louisiana and South Carolina have reported.
Because of these delays the War Department will not
be able to get the new array into camp until some weeks after
September 1st, the date first fixed.
London. July 7.^-rOne of the biggest German airfleets
ever over London, bombarded the town today. It numbered
twenty aeroplanes and dropped many bombs.
Over-thirty German and British aeroplanes engaged in a
gigantic air fight, two or three miles above London, at one
time.
The enemy fliers approached at a terrific speed off Tha-
net Isle. High angle guns filled the air with shrapnel.
The British aeroplanes sped aloft, attacking the enemy
with machine guns, and f!>e clatter of the machine-gun battle,
n midst the clouds came down in crackling waves.

told by the survivors today.
Officers of the submarine, with drawn revolvers, searched

Zurich, July 10 (By Agence Radio and International
News Service).—‘ Germany must fight to the last gasp,” de*
dared Chancellor Hollweg, thus announcing to the world that
peace is still far distant, said an official dispatch received
here from Berlin today. The speech was made Monday be
fore the main Committee of the Reichstag in a secret meet-
it g, says the Taeglische Rundschau, a Berlin newspaper.
The Chancellor opposed the policy of no annexation* or
indemnities, declaring it “Impossible and Dangerous.” “The
Government it unable to accept the Socialistic proposition*
because it had proved unsuccessful in Russia.”
The Lola] Anzeiger quotes the Chancellor as saying:
“Germany mast continue the war with all the energy at her

We shall conquer if we remain firm.”
