rompulsory thrift for soldiers has been introduced i

It provides for a minimum alllotment for each soldier
with dependents of $15 a m.ri-ith wiu> $5 additional for each
child. In addition to this allotment from i/ie soldier's pay, the
government will give allowances ranging /rom $5 to $50

The private making an allotmc-.t of $L5 will be further

The plan includes a compensation system in event of total
disability of $40 to $75.00 monthly according to s*ze of fam

New York, Aug. 15.—The oPpe’a peace proposals re-
eived a cold reception in London but every indication is that
they are acceptable in Berlin and Vienna.
Metropolitan newspapers in the United States, with few
exceptions, take the position that there is no peace possible,
until Prussianissm is demolished.
Some believe that the Pope’s proposals may lead to fur
ther peace movements.
