JURY SHOULRNOT SPECIALIZE
Should Not Inquire Into Ju.tUo or
Wisdom of Any Law. But Apply
to AU AGk..
Judge Eve Iocs not agree with
the Georgia jurist who recently char-'
ged a Grand Jury to “go after the
big fish and pay less attention to .the
little ones.” In his charge to the
Grand Jury of Tift Superior Court
Monday morning. Judge Eve lai'd
stress on the fact that all transgres
sors, high and low, rich and poor,
stand on common ground before the
law.
•This is the day of specialization
the professions and in nearly all
JTnes of industry," said his Hoqor,
“but not so for Grand Jurors. Do
not specialize on one feature of the
criminal law. but take them all; not
specially the blind tiger nor the gam
bler. but reach out for all violators of
the law, rich and poor, little and big.
It is not the duty of the GrandApror
to inquire as to the wisdom or justice
of any law, nor the position or *tand-
of the violator thereof, but to
bring all transgreasora to book, irres
pective of wealth or position:
poor ax well as the rich; the rich as
well as the poor."
His Honor talked very impressively
on the dignity and responsibility of
jury service. The origin of the
Grand Jury he said went back many
centuries, into the early history of
England. The organization
formed not alone for the purpose of
bringing the transgressor of Hie law
trial, but' also to protect the citi-
n who was unjustly accused.
Tbe fact that it required the “most
experienced, upright and intelligent"
itizenship is an honor by se :
lection. Many hold the call to jury
service too lightly. No sacrifice
ihould be deemed too great therefor
■xcept that of honor. A man should
rive his time to aid in protecting
the lives and property of bia fellow
citizens. No man lives for himself
ilone, ami in protecting thorn he U
ilso protecting himself. The cit-
ten who Is devoid of high ideals

Juror has no reward except the joy
of knowledge of a duty well done,
what would this world he but for
those who have sacrificed that jus
tice might rule and the law be up
held?
A community, - or state can only
be pure and good as the common
people are pure and good; polities
are clean only as the people ere
clean. We are our neighbor’s keeper
ir on our duty well done dependa
ie ’ life, happiness and welfare of
ir neighbor and ourselves.
"Seek bot to tear down where you
innot rebuild. His Honor admon
ished, "exert your personal influ-
for the moral welfare of your
county and think not duty labori-
In conclusion. His Honor gave
Grand Jurors in charge the-special
statutes required, as well as the en
tire ^criminal code, the supsirvisin
of the welfare, or the coiiqly and jt*
public'property, and called their
tention to the fact that the tenna of
