TRENCH CANDLE^
The pupil* of the Junior High
School have taken quite an interest
in making trench candles for the
soldiers, having rolled over four
teen hundred in two weeks.
Last Friday they all met in the
venth grad* room for a contest.
Each pupil was given strips enough
for two candles. There were thir
ty-three in the contest.
Lewi* Phillips, from 6 A Grade;
finished in 5 minutes and 50 sec
onds, thus winning the champion
ship in time. Ralph Williams, from
the 7th Grade, rolled his two in 6
minutes and 30 seconds George
Julian came first from 6 B in 8
minutes and 6 seconds
As to quality, Harmon Greene
came first In the 7th Grade. Carlton
Mathis in 6 A and Lucfle G°88*ns
and Troy Rainwater tied in 6 B.
In one week Robert Hargrett,
Roy Shaw and Hannon Greene from
the 7th Grade rolled 212 candles.
Marion Haulbrook, from 6 A, rolled
86 and Thomas Lear, from 6 3,
