Washington, May 4.—The four American soldiers abroad
sentenced to death for sleeping at their posts in disobedience
to orders will pot die for their offense. President Wilson ruled
today. Two were granted full pardon and the other two sen
tences were confirmed but were commuted to three years penal
servitude^t Ft. Leavenworth.
Privates Forrest B. Sebastain and Jeff Cook were pardon
ed while Privates Olan Ledowen and Stanley G. Fiahback
were sent to Ft. Leavenworth.
President Wilson based his action on the grounds of the
extreme youth of the soldiers and tbe fact that their offenses
were free from disloyalty.
Atlanta, May 4.—An attempt at a wholesale delivery of in
terned German prisoners at Ft, McPherson was foilad late Fri
day afternoon, it became known today. The guards discover
ed a fifty-foot tunnel leading from tbe barrack* toward th#
double wire fence enclosing tbe prison camp.
Earlier in the afternoon the Teutons were grouped togeth
er and a fight ensued, in which blows ware exchanged. Guards
