Give Him Delightful Surprise.
The surprise birthday supper given
to Dr. M C Williford, of Lenox, by his
wife, Wednesday evening, April 2nd,
took the doctor quite by surprise in
deed os he was not aware of unythipg
of the kind until he went to supper.
To his astonishment, he was greeted
by quite a number of his friends who
gave him to understand that his birth
day was in April and that they were
playing their part of the game.
To appease his April-fool he was the
recipient of a lot of nice presents given
by his friends in memory his 20th mile
post on life’s highway.
Supper beiug announced his guests
circled around the dining table on which
wok spread a bountiful supply of food
that his wife had prepared for the oc
casion.
Col. B. C. Williford, brother of the
doctor, was railed on to give a before
supper talk; in which he told some of
the doctor's ups und downs in boyhood
days.
The very important moment was then
at hand and the supper, which had been
so skillfully prepared, was served by
Mrs. Williford, who demonstrated hoi
ability for a teacher of dotppstic science.
The presents were then delivered by
your scribe, who also made the after-
supi>cr talk, in which he told the ex
pectations and responsibilities of a you
thful manhood just entering the impor
tant part of life.
The occasion was informal and free
from the technical features of style
ccpt those that made you feel as if you
were in the hands of true, Southern hos
pitality and congenial companionship.
. The guests were: Col. and Mrs. B
C. Williford and J. S. Royal, of Tifton;
Misses Ruth Swint, Ida Roberts, Ruth
Harrell, Marie Allen, Winnie Hendrix
Vera Gray and Nellie Martin; Dr. C G
Scruggs, Messrs. Tbad Freeney, Billie
Roberts, Vernon Williams, J. A. and
Ivey Wetherington, of Lenox.
The game of association, talk and be
ing talked to was played until the hour
of departure, when they wish'd the
doctor many repetitions of his magnifi
cent birthday and complimenting Mrs
Williford for her successful surprise.
Ex-R.
was voted the* prettiest girl. Chas
Haggerty resold his box for the stup
endous sum of $3.<
