An eloquent and at the same time prac
tical and logical plea for the education of
the boys and girls who stay on the farm
was the sermon of Dr. W L Pfckard, of
Chattanooga at the Commencement Exer
cises of the Second District Agricultural
School. A large congregation greeted
the able speaker for the Commencement
sermon, which was preached at 5 p. m.
Sunday.
Dr, Pickord’a subject was “The Riches
that Lie Jn the Earth.** He told how the
Southern farmers are twenty-five years
behind the fanners of Northern and
Western sections of the country because
the South has not provided for their edu-
■ation along practical lines.
He named in detail many states that
arc paying largo sums for agricultural
experimentation and for vocational train
ing in agriculture. The South is behind
he said because it fails to educate. He
urged sous aud daughters of farmers to
educate themselves for their work in
I life.

they have been educated and trained for
their calling.
