charged with using the mails to defraud.
Mr. Webb was living across the line
from Doeruu iu Worth county in 1017,
but received his mail by rural carrier
from Doerun. A letter came to that post-
office addressed to Mrs. Mattie Webb
and the postmaster gave it to the rural
carrier, instructing him to give it to Mr.
Mathew (familiarly called “Mathy”)
Webb, and if it was not for him or his'
people to usk him to return it Two
more letters followed.
These letter* concerned the closing up
of an estate in Evans county and were
by Jos. W. Smith, of Manassas, (ia.. to
his sister. Mrs. I.ee W. Webb, of Doerun.
Mrs. Webb's given name was Mattie. *
It was charged by the (government that
Mr. Webb knew these letters were not
intended for him. hut that he received
ami kept them with intent to defraud.
The defendant claimed that when the
first letters came lie thought they referred

About five weeks ago she was moved to
her sister’s, Miss H. T. Hill, in Doles,
only to spend her last few days with h*r.
Her remains were laid to rest by the
side of her husband in the cemetery at
Red Oak church.

Isaac Brady, son of A. D. Brady, one
of our best citizens died Friday night at
Ellis’ Island from tuberculosis. His body
was brought here Wednesday aud inter
red in the cemetery nt Isnbella. Sol
diers and former comrades acted as an
escort to the body.
Mr. Brady enlisted in the army two
years ago and was in active service in
France for the past year. At all times
he made a good record but succumbed
to consumption just after reaching the
home shores. lie leaves in addition to
his parents a wife and two children to
mourn bis loss. *
