The hardest fight in the Convention comes on the approv
al of the labor party, hut there is considerable opposition talso

Washington, Sept. 11.—With government officials trying
to avert the steel strike called for September 22, Union leaders
today declared there would be no postponement of the strike
unless employers capitulated.
Attorney General Palmer began a study of the conditions
in the mill district where workers charge the right of free
speech and free assembly had been violated.

Pari*, Sept 10.—Austrian delegates, led by Chancellor
Renner, signed the Austrian Peace Treaty at St. Germain this
morning. No speeches were made by the Austrian delegate*.
Clemenceau, on behalf of the Allies, invited the Austrian*
to $ign in the same terse fashion he employed before the Ger
mans at Versailles.
Aside from the Treaty, the Austrians signed two engage,
ment*, one by which they will undertake to indicate the Allied
ships lost during the war which were sunk by Austrians and
another which obligatea the mto furnish within the month a
list of persons responsible for the war that the Allies may place
them on trial.
After the signing, the Supreme Council of the Peace Confe-
rence announced that the Romanian* and Jugoslavs would h^.

given three day* in which to sign the Treaty.
