Tift county was released from cattle
tick quarantine Monday along with sev
enteen other Georgia counties. Releases
on this date in six Southern states reach
ed a total of 50,555 square miles, the
Georgia territory released totaling 64M2
square miles. The release from federal
quarantine against the cattle tick was
mode effective under an order from the
Department of Agriculture.
The Georgia counties released from
quarantine by this order are:
Calhoun, Carroll, Chatham, Clay, Col
quitt, Early, Jones, Marion, Miller, Mon
roe, Schley, Screven, Sumter, Tift, Turn
er, Twiggs, Webster, and Wilkinson.
In each of these counties tick eradica
tion has been conducted effectively by
state, federal ,and county inspectors,
working in co-operation with farmers
and other live stock owners. According
to federal officials, the counties have been
cleaned thoroughly, and the tick is be
ing pushed southeastward into tbe corner
tbat will be tbe destructive parasite’
last staud in Georgia.
The state tick eradication law, which
becomes effective December 31, 1010, and
will make It necessary for every infested
county to prepare for systematic tick
eradication work, lias proved to be s
stimulus in this year’s work, and is re
garded as an important reason for tbe
good progress in 1010.
Systematic tick eradication work is to
be conducted during 1020 in tbe follow
ing counties: Appling, Ben Hfl!, Ber
rien. Bleckley, Bacon, Bryan, Bullock,
Candler, Coffee, Cook, Crawford, Crisp,
Decatur, Dooly, Dodge, Effingham, Eman
uel. Evans, Irwin, Jenkins, Johnson*, Jeff
Davis. Laure#?, Macon, Montgomery,
Tntnall, Telfair, Toylor, Treutlen, Wheel-
, Wilcox, and Worth.
Preliminary work will go forward dur
ing 1020 in Camden, Charlton, Clinch,
Echols, Glynn, Liberty, McIntosh, Pierce,
