Christianity’s Contribution to Scienffc
Is the title »Jf an interesting af-

by Rev. J. W. Lfee, and which we
find printed in the LaGraiige Re-

reached by Mr. Lee meet our unan

distinction he makes between
Christianity and theology as an ex
ceedingly pertinent one, while his
illustrations are fine and well ar
ranged; but when he defines Chris-

tianity as “that system of truth, re
ligion and morals founded by Christ
and illustrated in the writings of
the New Testament, and then, upon
this definition, bases the assertion
that “Christianity is to-day what
it was in the days of Abraham
Isaac and Jacob,” his language be
trays a looseness of expression
wholly incompatible with the gen
eral excellence of his article.
For, since Christianity is that
“ system of truth^religiou and mor
als founded by Christ and illustra
ted in the writings of the New Tes
tament,” it is. difficult to conceive
how it can be older than both its
founder and the writings which
furnish its illustrations.
But we intended to commend the
article as a terse and successful de
fense of Christianity against the as-
sualts of the rash, and ungodly
devotees of science, “falsely so-
called,” who so infest our country
in these “last days.”

More Valuable than Ever.
W r e direct our readers’ attention
elsewhere to the advantage, impor
tance, and direct profit, of supplying
themselves this year with the A-
merican Aguricultrist, (New’ York)
the cheapest as well as the most val
uable journal in the country. 'Every
number contains one hundred col
umns of original reading matter, by
the leading writers of the country,
upon all topics connected with the
Farm, Garden, and Household, and'
nearly one hundred engravings
made specially for the American
Agriculturist, now’ in its 43d year
is unquestionably more valuable
than ever before. Each- number
brings fresh evidence that no time
or money is considered where the
interest to the paper Is at stake. Its
“House Plans and Improvements.?’
profusely illustrated, are worth
more than any costly architectural
works. Its persistent featless expo
sure of Humbugs and swindling
schemes, is of great value to the
whole country, particularly (he
farming community. In short it has
something good and valuable for
everybody.
