St. Louis Republic says that there is a
remarkable unanimity of sc-ntimeut
among prominent democrats in - " ush-

The republ leans seem io be aoout a
badly split on the financial question as
the democrats are. In fact some of their
leading men arc more out-spoken about
kiekiug out of the traces, if things don’t
go to suit them, than the democrats are.
At a meeting of the national democrat

A. L. Harris, who figured prominent
ly in political a Hairs, in reconstruction
days, iu Georgia, died at his home in
Atlanta on last Tuesday morning. The
deceased, in the days of Gov. Ballock,
was his right hand man. Ou account of
ins size then, tire democratic papers call
ed him ‘“Fatty” Harris.
There is some talk about your “Uncle
Bob” Hardeman for governor of Geor
gia, aftor Gov. Atkinson serves his sec
ond term. Well your “Uncle Bob"
would make a goed one, as he kuows
about as much about the affairs of this
state, as any man in it, and lias a large
fund of that necessary article, common
sense, that would always keep him in the
middle of the road.
try to build-up the town!
be more tolerable for Sodom and Go
morrah, in the day of judgement, than
for a town that would so trifle with best
interests of her people? 1 hav_e known
the face of that man for many years,
but I never knew nor heard of him in
vesting a dollar towards building a
school house, or church house- any
where. Away with this whiskey trafic

Notice to all whom it may concern:
All stock, regardless of color, size or
parentage, found running at large af

will be dealt with as law directs. By
order of the mayor. Look sharp gen
tlemen, fer on ibis line we have no
enemies to punish nor iiicads to favor
for it is now high time that a stop be
put to this looseness of long-snouted

their snouts piercing towards the cen

and annoying to fair minded people.
WESTV1EWITE.
Whether we shall have one or two
democratic conventions in Georgia this
year seems to be the issue in the demo
cratic party in this stare. It is conceded
by all that it would be less trouble to
have one convention. But some say that
it is against the time honored usage of
the party, which lias always had two
conventions presidential years, and
therefore for that reasoa would be un
wise. There is no argument iu this, the
main reason given against one conven
tion. Hoke Smith says that the national
platform will be against silver and that
if the state platform should be for it,
there would be democrats who would in
sist ou following the state platform.
Right you are there Mr. Secretary, and
it might as well be known now that if
the national platform adopts the gold
standard and the democrats of Georgia
attempt to fight under that banner, good
bye democracy in Georgia. The great
majority of the democrats of this state
believe in silver and if the national con
vention, dominated as it will be, by states
that never go democratic, shall declare
for the republican policy of a gold stan
dard, we do not believe they can by any
kind of pressure, bring the party in this
state, in its entirety to follow them.
This is plain talk, but it is the truth we
believe, and might as well be spoken
now.

Cleveland a besotted tyrant and referred
to the financial Lgistation of the last
few years »s a part and parcel of a
damnable scheme of robbery, which had
for its object, first, the utter destruction
of silver as a money metal; second, the

1 learn that there are four mining com
pautes here now. Gold, silver and copper
are found, ana it has been rumored
around for the last week or two that the
prospect is that the precious metals will
be taken out in an abundance in the
near future. How true it is I cannot
say, but a few days will reveal the
truth.
As an item of news that may inter
est at least some of readers of the paper
I will state that ou the 15th of
this mouth I went with my wife to At
lanta to Dr. Calhoun to have a cataract
taken out of her eye. W e arrived there
on the 15th and reported to the doctor
and lie prescribed the preparatory treat
ment which was carried out strictly, and
ou the next day we reported to him, ready
for the operation and lie proceeded to
the work, and iu about twenty minutes
the operation was skillfully and success
fully performed. What will be the final
result, remains for the future develop
ment. The cataract was of the worse
form, or kind, and very difficult to get
out. For besides the cataract itself, it
was surrounded with a thick whitish
fluid that had to be gotten out before the
cataract could be reached. But Dr. Cal
houn knows exactly what to do with the
human eye. Many of the stories I have
heard of his skill in treating the eye, I
did not believe. For instance I have
heard it said that he could take a persons
eye out. clean it up and then put it back
all right. I believe it now.
My wife is still iu Atlanta not permit
ted to oyen sit up or turn herself in bed
until her eve has healed. F. A. R.
