Upon the enactment of a law
authorizing the acquisition ol

Treasury Department invites,
through a local newspaper, pro
posals for the sale or donation of
a suitable corner. This adver
tise nent gives such information
as to the dimensions of the site
and the general requirements as
will enable intelligent prepara
tion ot proposals.

State Chemist R. E. Stallings,
of the department of agriculture,
who succeeded Dr. J, M. Me 1
Candless as head of this depart'
a ment is completing the work on
the annual bulletin of his depart'
ment, which will soon be issued
to the public.
This book will contain valua
ble information to the farmers of
the State, none of which will be
mere acceptable or useful than
his calculations in regard to the
feed stuff to be used by the farm,
ers of Georgia, and the relrtive
feed and monetary value of
each.

with representations in writing
from other sources, the depart
ment selects the site and, it the
property is to be acquired by
purchase, accepts the offer of the
successful bidder, subject to the
conditions stated in the adver
tisement and the Attorney-Gen
eral’s approval of the title.
Whenever the Department is
unable to purchase an accepta
ble site at a reasonable price, or
where acceptable title cannot be
secured by voluntary convey>
ance, a selection is made and
the title acquired by condemna
tion proceedings, in which the
price to be paid is judicially de
termined.
The building (it any) on the
site should be reserved by the
vendor, to be removed upon no
tice after payment for the land
has been made. Generally, no
tice to move is not given until
the construction of the Federal
building is about to begin, if the
the vendor is willing, pending
such removal, to pay a reasona-
ble ground rent.
Plans for public building are
taken up in the order in which
the titles to the site therefor are
visited in the United States, and
the contracts for the construction
are let at as early a date as prac
ticable.

Upon this report,^ together ton, in actual leeding value, is
■ " worth $61.20 a ton, so far as
food value is concerned, when
compared with corn, now selling
for $35.So a ton.
In this statement Dr. Stallings
says
“Protein is the necessary in
gredient for practically all farm
ers and dairyman to purchase
and it is simply a matter of good
business policy to be able to go
into market and select the most
digestible portein for the least
expenditure of money. This,
of course, to supplement the
hrmegrown feeds.’’
“When cotton seed meal, our
well known Southern by-pro’
duct, of cotton sted, produced
so freely in this state, is selling,
as it is now. for $24 a ton, for $1
worth of this meal a person gets
32 96 pounds of protein and 7-2
pounds ot fat. When $1.00 is
spent for corn at the rate of
$35.90 a ton, the present price,
5.06 of protein and 2-8 pounds
of fat are secured. To equal in
money value, the feed value of
cotton seed meal, cotton seed
meal should sell for $51.20 a
ton.’’

I decided I would write you
a few lines again for publication.
It will be nothing of great im
portance, but perhaps you Geor
gians might accept a lew lines
from not an Alabamian, but a
Georgia girl in Alabama.
I have been out here 5 years
and like splendid. The farmers
have not been progressing with
their farming for the past week,
but the weather has cleared up
and they are using it. It is
pity to see the Georgia people
working themselves to death on
a bed of rock, when they could
come to Alabama and get them
a nice farm cheaper than they
could there, and clear of rocks.

What Adamson Did in Con
gress.
Washington, D, C. May 20th,
1908.—During the last hours of
congress the reportes turns to
the record of various members
and the conspicious work of the
few members ot congress during
the present session stands out in
clear relief, and the Fourth Con
gressional District of Georgia is
honored by the services of Judge
Wm. C. Adamson and is lor-
tunate to be represented by a
man who 1 tbors rank among the
first from the standpoint of prac
tical accomplishments.
Judge Adamson is a member
of the most important and active
committee of the house of repre
sentatives, that ot Interstate and
Foreign Commerce. Th : s com
mittee has held 83 sessions, 51
public hearings, and in its room
thrashed out and reported to the
house 86 measures of vast im-
portance to the'country. There
were 377 bills brought belore
the committee and considered.
Even this does not give one an
idea of the time required to stud}
subjects brought before the sub
committees to which Judge Ad
amson has attended faithfully.
The rural carriers ol the coun
try have not i better friend than
the distinguished Georgia states
man. He has introduced and
insisted earnestly for increase in
salary for them, but on account
of a short appropriation he could
not have it allowed.
While looking after matters ol
great importance to the general
people, he does not forget hi?
own individual constituents which
is magnificently illustrated by
the number of private pension
bills he has secured.
That the leaders ol both par
ties recognize his ability and
tact, as well as his energetic dis
position, was plainly demon
strated when he was chosen as
one of five, out of all the mem
bers of the house of representa
tives to allot the rooms and offT
ces to committees and individu
al members of congress. This
job required a great amount of
work and was successfully com
pleted.
Representing the democrats
on his committee, he has secured
every aid to navigation and light
house asked by any democrat
from the Deleware river to Gal
veston Harbor.
In enumerating the efforts of
Judge Adamson, his work with
the Republicans to get them to
build a turn-pike road from Fort
McPherson to Waco Rifle
Range is quite note worthy, but
on account of being a political
year his success was postponed.
It is safe to predict that he will
secure this next session.
For the cities of Newnan and
LaGrange he secured a public
building each, and also obtained
a site at Carrollton.
A veteran Republican mem
ber from New England said to
another member while Judge
Adamson was making a speech
on railroads: “Adamson doesn’t
speak often, but whenever he
gets up and argues a thing he is
right.” On this same speech
Judge Adamson was highly com
plimented by the speakers and
many others.
He is a man who is “on to
the job,” and always “on the
job.”
