half dozen marooners, made a
boat trip from Atlanta to Colum
bus. The journey though fraught
with many hardships and priva
tions was made without the loss
of a single life, but the party
had many hairbreadth escapes
by flood and field. Unusually at
this time of the year the banks
of the river are teeming with
Indians, but owing to the fact
that Old Rain-in-the-face, and
most of the braves were on the
warpath in Atlanta, the young
marooners were only shot by
squaws and escaped as they navi
gated the turbulent waters of
turbid Chattahoochee. The sur
vivors of the expedition reached
this camp by the. overland trail
from Columbus a few days ago.
Te Deums were sung on the
arrival of the'heroic youths, and
a general thanksgiving service
is appointed for the 4th of July
to commemorate their safe ar-
