Going to Encampment
First Sargeant B. F. Boykin
is getting the Carrollton Platoon
of Co. G. in good shape for the
annual encampment of the 5th
Regiment atChickamauga. The
boys will leave here on the 12th
inst., and will enjoy a week’s
outing at that beautiful historic
camping ground.
The service this year is obli
gatory, and Uncle Sam will see
that each man gets pay for his
week’s service. This is not a
mere frolic, but will give the
boys a taste of genuine army
life and discipline.
Our business men, all em.
ployers ot labor, in fact, should
make sacrifices, il necessary in
in order to enable every mem
ber of the company to go to
Chickamauga. You don’t know
when a military company is go
ing to prove of immense value to
this community and everything
possible should be done to pro
mote the elficiency of our local
military organization.

A most enjoyable affair was
the barbecue given by J. C. Stal
lings to a number ot his friends
at his home near Lowell on Sat
urday the fourth, of July. About
seventy five invited guests were
present, and spent a most enjoy
able day. The table was spread
in the beautiful grove surround
ing Mr. Stalling country home,
and just at twelve o’clock, noon,
the guests were invited to a re
past fit for the gods. The festal-
board literady groaned beneath
the bunden of good things.
There was the savory barbecue,
pork, mutton and veal, together
with steaming German stew.
There were pickles galore, sour
tor the sweet, and sweet for the
sour, and cake of many descrip
tions. And bread, there was
corn-pone, muffins, biscuit and
loaf; there was smoking coffee
for the old and refreshing lem
onade for all.
In fact, it was just such a
spread as Jule Stallings and his
good lady know so well how to
prepare. Theirs remind one of
Southern hospitality in anti-
beilum days.
After all appetites were ap
peased and allthirts were qunch-
ed, short speeches were deliver
ed by Messrs. J. B. Huckeba,
John R. Spence, J. R. Adamson,
[. J. Thomasson and W. J. Mil-
lican.
This short and inadequate ac
count of a pleasant occasion
would be altogether incomplete
were mention not made of Mr.
John Hutson, who prepared the
meats, and contributed much to
the pleasure of all present. Mr.
Hutson is an adept in the barbe
cuing line and he certainly did
himself proud on this occasion.
Those present from Carrollton
were: Dr. and Mrs. J. R. M.
Carter, Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
Millican, J. J. Thomasson,J. R.
Adamson, W. C. Hodnett.
Mr. Stallings has a pleasant
couutry home, one-half mile
south of Lowell, and owns and
operates one of the largest and
best equipped farms in the coun

As thp full grown shadows of
ihe late afternoon b.'gan to cov
er the earth, the guests bid
adieu to their host, wishing for
him and his continued health,
happiness and prosperity.
Thus closed a day long to be
fragrant in the memories of
those present.
A great many people imagine
they have heart trouble when the
fact is that the whole trouble lies in
the stomach. The pains in the side
around the region of the heart are
not necessarily this trouble. We
suggest you start with the stomach
and whenever you feel a depression
after eating or whenever your food
seems to nauseate take Kodol. It
will not be very long until all these
“heart pains” will disappear. Take
Kodol now and until you know you
are right again, There isn’t any
doubt about wnat it will do and you
will find the truth of this statement
verified after you have used Kodol
for a few weeks. It is sold here by
Hamrick’s Pharmacy.
Rev. I. W. Williams Testifies
||Rev. 1. W. Williams, Huntington,
W. Va., testifies as follows: “This
is to certify that 1 used Foley’s Kid
ney Remedy for nervous exhaustion
and kidney trouble, and am free to
say that Foley’s Kidney Remedy
Will do all that you claim for it.”
Sold by Hamrick’s Pharmacy.
When you think of indigestion
think of Kodol. for it is without
douot the only preparation that com
pletely digests all classes of food.
And that is what you need when
you have indigestion and stomach
trouble—something that will act
promptly but thoroughly, something
that will get right at the trouble
and do the very work itself for the
stomach by digesting the food that
you eat and that is Kodol. It is
pleasant to take. It is sold by
Hamrick’s Pharmacy.
Foley’s Orino Laxative, the new
laxative, stimulates, but does not
irritate. It is the best laxative.
Guaranteed or your money back.

N AMING prices with ‘special, extra special,
and value so and so’ tacked on before them
is something that we rarely allow ourselves
to indulge in for we realize that it is re
sorted to so much that it has become monotinous.
But some times ‘in the course of human events,’
we run across a ‘Doubting Thomas’ or a man ‘from
Missouri’ whom we cannot convince without fig
ures that we sell everything in the hardware line
cheaper than they can buy elsewhere. \Ve have
found a few of this variety and we are ready with
‘the goods’ and the prices ‘to show them.’ And in
prder that they may be ‘shown’ we quote a few
‘extra special values’ and by studying them you
can see without the use of the latest invention, the
‘Lynoscope’ that it is not necessary to look all over
