Advertising is a tonic for run
down business, says an ex*
change. It builds up and never
tears down It is a moving ma
chine in the harvest of dollars;
it is a silent salesman which
never grmbles, but goes about
its work untiringly; it is a bal
last against all storms that blow ;
it is a ship that carries a mer
chant across treacherous seas;
it is a steel girdle that protects
his business craft against the
damage when the craft plunges
against the rock of bankruptcy f
and makes the believer riche
his business a pleasure and not a
task. It is a bully thing. Try it.

A Prize Offer.
An editor sat on a stool one
day and wondered and wonder,
ed what to say that would make
delinquent subscribers pay.
He’d try coazing. but ‘ twan,t
any use; subscribers came

the editor was afraid to try
abuse. He needed the money—
he needed it bad ; for his credi

one way to make ’em get glad.

We again call attention ot the
city fathers, and the home-
owners of our town, to the neces
sity and importance of planting
out shade trees. Now is the
proper season lor it, and a city
with many well kept shade trees
is prettier, and healthier and
cooler in summer, and warmer
in winter, and fosters the love
of home, and enhances greatly
the value of property. Suppose
there were two rows of shade
trees from Kingsberry’s bridge
to the A. &. M. School, what a
splended driveway it would
make. And not only these streets
hut others should be adorned
with shade trees, and the cosi
ot planting and cartng for them
would not be so great, while the
porlit accruing from the in the
way of increased va ues of prop>
erty, and beauty to our town,
and ccmtort to our people,
would be immense.

Last week a gentleman called
at our office and desired to see a
paper publisher at a certain
town, says the editor of a
contemporary.* He wished to
make some collections and was
after some attorney’s addres?.
He found just one lawyer’s name
in the paper and gave him the
business. Now there are five
attorney’s in the place, and out
of that number four were foolish
and one was wise, he kept his
name before the public.
