Enthusiasm has been at the highest pitch in the city for the past week, and' at a mass meet ing of citizens yesterday the subscription list of $50,000 was completed. More than a hundred citizens have subset ibed to the stock, and among the stock holders are the largest wholesale shippers, manufacturers and merchants. A committee has been ap pointed to collect 10 per cent of the amount subscribed of the capital stock, and this work will be completed this week and the company will probably be or ganized next week . J. M. Muse Dead. In the death of J. M . Muse which occurred last Tuesday at his home near Abilene, one of the oldest, as well as the most highly esteemed citizens of the county passed away. He was seventy years of age and had resided in this county for fifty six years and most of that time at the home where his death oc curred. He was for a number of years tax collector for the county and filled the position in a most sati isfactory manner. He was a consistent member of Abilene Baptist church, and had served the church as clerk since its or ganization. The funeral services were con’, ducted by his pastor, Rev. J . M. D. Stallings, from Abilene church and intered with Masonic honors by Carroll Lodge of which he was a highly esteemed member. Chautauqua Very Fine. Our people are being highly entertained this week by the Chautauqua attractions, which are composed of the best talent procurable. Every entertainment hastaxed the seating capacity of the spa cious warehouse wt ere the Chau tauqua is being held. At the address by Ex Gov. Hoke Smith many could not se cure seats, and the house was never so crowded. People from all parts of the county came in '° hear the ex Governor which attests his popularity in this county. The remaining features of the Chautauqua season are of the bestclass and are sure to be well attended. fe ■ ■ 1 What makes our Bank better than another? The good people of the vicin’ ity of Concord Church and Hick ory Level are justly proud of their new church, a handsome brick house that would be an ornament to any of our litile cities. The dedication service will be conducted bv Bishop Candler the first Sunday in July, and a large attendance is expected. The earnest work of these people in building this church which is the only brick church in the rural districts of the epun, ty should be an inspiration to some of their sister churches, who contemplate building. Butler-Lawrence. A wedding ot much local in terest occured Saturday, June 4th in Atlanta, when Miss Em ma Butler, formerly of this city, and Mr W C Lawrence of Ats lanta, were united in the holy bonds ot wedlock. The wedding was quite a surprise to their most intimate friends here who wish for them a long and happy mar ried lite. The many friends of Mr P J Williams will regret to learn of his death which occurred at his home m this city last Friday evening. Mr Williams suffered lrom paralysis lor more than a year prior to his death. His re mains were carried to Newnan Sunday afternoon for interment.
