Hoke Smith will be formally nominated as the Democratic candidate for governor to suc ceed Gov. Joseph M. Brown at at the stale convention iu At lanta on September 1st. The convention will be held in the auditprium-armory, and will be called to order at 10 o’clock by Editor Charles P. Pendleton, ot the Macon Telegraph, chairman of the state committee. Mr PenJleton will call tor nomina. tions for temporary chairman and will deliver the gavel to the man chosen by the convention. There will be 368 votes in the convention, but there is no lim> itation among the number of delegates and alternates. For instance, a county having only two votes in the convention may send eight delegates. The num ber of delegates will, make no difference whatever, as every county will vote as a unit for the gubernatorial candidate that carried it. While the voting strength of each county is fixed by rule, there is no limitation on the number ol delegates. The county chairmen are authorized to appoint as many delegates as they choose, provided of course, they are named from the sup* porters of the successful candi date. l’he delegates from Carroll County are: J H Barron, H P Kelley, J O Newell, Geo Tumlin M R Russell, R H McClung, J T Jones, E Creel, J W Stone, J T Norman, G A 'Hogan and Will Freel. Walker-Hamrick. Last Sunday afternoon a quiet wedding wa< solemuiz d in our city. Mr. Geo. L. Hamrick and Miss Jennie Mae Walker while out tor an alternoon walk stopped at the residence ot Mr. H. O. Roop and were quietly married at five o’clock. Rev. J M, Dodd performing the ceremony. Mrs. Hamrick is the beautiful aDd accomplished daughter of Mr. C, L. If so, the convention vote will be equally divided between Smith and Brown since Walker in no county received one-fourth ol the vote cast. A. & M. Fair Notes. The A. & M. Fair this year will hav-t so many new features that it is expected more than double the people will attend, making it the greatest event of Carrolls history. The educational feature of the fair cannot be estimated, and it is hoped that every man, wo man and child in the district will attend and see what our neighbors are doing.
