Undoubtedly her schools. They are our chiefest treasure, our greatest glory. Think—458 students enrolled on the opening day of school: what mighty lorces (or good and evil are here represented : what large possibilit es of success or tailure, of happiness or misery. And these 458 youngsters are bone ot our bone and flesh ot our flesh. Of course we are deep ly interested in them, and they are more precious than all else in Carrollton combined. Twelve first class, well equip ped teachers there, should be eighteen headed, by a most et ficient Superintendent are to in struct them, and disciple and de velope them. No more sacred task was ever committed to any one, than is committed to Super intendent Adams and his corps of assistants. We want to con gratulate Carrollton that such a splendid man as Prof Adams is to head this great work, and his corps of teacher, we doubt not, will measure uo to the best expectations of the people. But in order to do the best work, let the patrons of theschool remember thatthey should heartl iy co opeiate with the teachers in their all important work. Look after children at home, encourage themwith their les sons, and ketp them off the streets especially at night. The Supt in his excellent open ing address Monday morning stated that the administration ot the school this year would be a progressive one. We endorse the sentiment, and promise to lend our best endeavor for tun ther growth and progress in ed ucational matters in our pro» gressivecity and we call upon all good and loyal citizens to stand by our Board of Kduca- tion and especially the Superim tendent and teachers in the all important work that confronts them. J The four new teachers were in their places as follows : Miss Carrie Villard, Principal ot Girls High School. Mr M F Sammons, Principal of Boys High School. Miss Louise Cornell, sixth grade ; Miss Lillie Cone, fifth grade; Miss Belle Hawes, iu the third and fourth overflow grades. The School Board at its meet ing on Wednesday afternoon adopted the one session a day rule which ninty per cent of the mothers had petitioned for. This rule does not cut oft any of the recitation work. Hours from 8 130 to 2 o’clock. FINE OPENING AT A. & M. SCHOOL Carroll County is justly proud ol the A & M School of the 4th, Congressional District. The opening last week was the largest in the history of the institution. The domitories are filled and overiflowing. This attendance attested the popui larity and worth of the Bchoo', and is a splendid testimony to the good work being done by Prof. Melson and his assistant teachers. We believe this school is the best and most-prosperous Jof its kind in the state, and this is largely due to the first class work being done at the school. And in this conuection we want to especially commend the activity of Prof. Melson and his labors lor the welfare of this school. Ths people of the county and the District, we feel sure, appre, ciate the good work being done by this school; but appecialion should be shown as well as felt. And this can Ire best done by the people ot the 4th Congressional District, in the erection of an other dormitory and other much needed buildings and the proper equipment of the school in every wav. SAD DEATH OF A LITTLE GIRL A very sad accident happened last Thursday afternoon to the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will . Boyd, who live 8 miles southwest of this place, near Bethesda Church. Mr. Boyd was having some mowing done when his little daughter ran in to the machine, which cut one foot off and mangled the other so as to necessitate amputation. The little one lived until 3 o’clock Wednesday morning. I Open 5 a.m. to 12 p. m The— Carroll Cafe D. P. ALEXANDER & P. DEMAS Proprietors. The Leading Cate in This Territory.
