A. Garrett experienced a close call on his life last Sunday night when he was called to arrest some disorderly negroes near the residence of Mr. W. R. Foster, about, two and a half miles west of town. He found a negro woman intoxicat ed and carried her to his buggy to bring her to town. About the time he reached the buggy with the woman, two negro men approached the Sheriff de manding to know what he was going to do with her; they were told that she was to be carried to town. One of the negroes, during the parley between them and the Sher iff, under cover of the darkness slipped around and suddenly spring ing upon the Sheriff began, j slashing at him with a razor. Mr Garrett seized the negro with the razor, at the same time reaching for his gun, at this the other negro drew a pistol and attempted to shoot the Sheriff who was quicker and got his man. The identity of the one with the razor is not known as he made his escape when Sheriff Garrett turned his attention to the man with the gun.
