.SKIN DISEASES
day and
assr©
There is an evaporation from the body going on continually, ii .
night, through the pores and glands of the skin. This is nature s way or
maintaining the proper temperature of our systems and preserving the solt-
tiess and flexibility of the skill, and so long as the blood is free from impur
ities no trouble will result. When, however, the blood from any cause
becomes infected with humors and acids, these too must be expelled, and
coming in contact with the delicate fibres and tissues with which the skin is
so abundantly supplied they produce irritation and inflammation, and the
effect is shown by Iw'/eina, Acne, Tetter, and skin affections of various kinds.
These iniiMiiilies and humors get into the blood through a deranged or
inactive condition of the system ; the members whose duty it is to carry off
the waste and refuse matter of the body fail to properly perlorm their work,
and this impure, fermenting matter is left in the system to be absorbed by
the blood. The skin is not only affected by poisons generated within the
system, but poisons from without,
suce. as Poison Oak, Poison Ivy,
Ne. .e Rash, etc., enter through the
open poies and glands, and so tlior
oughly do they become rooted in the
blood that they are ever present,
or return at certain seasons of each
year to torment the sufferer. Salves,
washes, lotions, etc., cannot cure skin
diseases. 1 rue. such treatment re
lieves some of the itching and dis
comfort. and aids in keeping the skin
clean, but it does not reach the real
cause, ami at best can be only palli
ating and soothing. A thorough
cleansing of the blood is the only certain cure tor skin diseases. S. S. S.,
a gentle astiug, safe blood purifier, made entirely of vegetable ingredients
of the forest and field, is the proper treatment. S. S. S. goes down into the
circulation, and neutralizes the acids and humors, thoroughly cleansing and
purifying the blood, and curing skin affections of every kind. It supplies

Nearly One-half of Those Known Ar« '

“There are only about H>0 deadlj
poisons known to science,” said an
expert, in poison lore the other din.
“Of these Hit) quickly fatal drugs
one-third arc alkaloids, and more
than a score are complicated animal
and vegetaule poisons not yet fully
classified. Nearly half cd' the total
number of known poisons are chem

mixed action on the human body.
Arsenic, for example, produces ul-

symptoms, of course, arc those tha'

been taken.
“A good many of these poisons
are dangerous to manufacture. Mer
curic methide, for instance, brings
madness to those who work too long
at making it. A gas rises from it
that is not immediately fatal, but
that causes temporary insanity,
which may, of course, become per
manent.

The Convention.
Well we will ask our little sermon |
to give place this week to just a
little talk about the Georgia Baptist
State Convention, so that some
questions asked by the children may
be answered for their benefit and
instruction and may be for some
who are older; but have not thought
very much about these matters, 1
such as Church Conferences, Associ
ations, Conventions and other relig
ious assemblies; but especially to |
answer for our little readers the ;
following questions.
1 Where was the Convention
i held? To this we answer, with the
| First Baptist churcii in the beauti- [
ful little city of Elberton, look on
| your map in East Georgia near the [
j Savannah river and you will find it, J
and a splen did little city it is, and j
j the good people gave to all who |
j came, a most cordial welcome, and !
! cared for us so very kindly, that we j
could scarcely express our thanks I
j for the kindness and Christian hos-1
! pitality so freely offered us, and j
j which will afford us many pleasant!
| memories, and we wish for them
! our heavenly Father’s rich blessing j
in their homes and churches.
2 But the next question is, what
is a Convention? Well, a convention
is an assembly of persons convened
or met together in organized body,
to attend to some matters of busi
ness, either secular or religious, then
of course a Baptist Convention is a
religious assembly organized for the
purpose of considering the great
interests of our churches and if
