Last Saturday Mr. Bob Jones, of
Whitesburg, shot and seriously
wounded a negro man who has since
died. The shooting was in self de
fence as the negro had made threats
and was advancing on Mr. Jones
with a gun.
Resolutions Passed
At Mass Meeting
Carrollton, Ga., Dec., 7, 1910
Tuesday at noon Hon. Jas. Beall
adjourned City Court and a mass
meeting was called. Hon. J. M.
Moore, of Villa Rica, was elected
chairman; J. 0. Newell, Secretary.
Hon, W. J. Millican in an im
pressive way stated the object of
the meeting and praised the Hon.
W. A. Garrett, Sheriff, for his effi
cient work as sheriff of our county.
Nearly five hundred people were
present and when the following
resolutions were introduced the
same were unanimously adopted.
There were present about one hun
dred negroes, and each and every
one voted for the adoption of the
resolutions.

Whereas, it has become necessary
for the Hon. W. A. Garrett. Sheriff
of said county, io shoot and kill a
negro, one Tom McKeever, in the
discharge of his, th . said sheriff’s
official duty as well as is the defense
of his person and life, and
Whereas, the people of Carroll
county recognizing it as important
that the white race should be su
preme in enforcing the laws of the
State and in providing and protect
ing society of the State, and
Whereas, we, the citizens of Car-
roll county in mass meeting as
sembled sympathize with the said
W. A. Garrett in having been so un
fortunate in having to take a hu
man life, |
Whereas, be it resolved thai we,'
the citizens of Carroll county, in 1
mass meeting assembled, approve
the acts of our Sheriff, and commend
him in the fearless discharge of
of duty, we hereby pledge him our
earnest support and co-operation
assuring, him in the same that their
unshaken confidence in him justi
fies them completely in extending
him this sympathy, aid and coopera
tion.

Bank. Carrollton, Ga., for that on November first.”
Referring to his vouchers, Jones produces the paid check
Mr Brown: “Well, Jones you pay your bills once, I
pay mine two or three times. The difference is that you
keep a bank account.

Georgian's Poultry Show
The Atlanta Georgian’s great
Poultry Show which will be held
for the benefit of the Georgia Poultry
Association in the Auditoriun
Armory, Atlanta, Ga., Jan. 9-15,
1911, will be one of the largest ever
held and the money prizes offered
are as large as any ever offered
in any show in the United States.
Our people here in Carroll County
are becoming more interested than
ever in the breeding of thorough
bred poultry and are recognizing
the necessity of more and better
poultry, and doubtles many of them
. will attend this show, even if they
don't exhibit there.
f The Georgian is to be commended
I for devoting so much of its space
to working up this show, and we
sincerely hope it will be a grand
success,

Camp-Bickford
Again one of Carrollton’s finest
young ladies has been captur
ed by a manly Atlantan, Mr, Henry
E. Bickford and Miss Mary Brown
Camp were quietly married at 10:30
o’clock last Sunday morning at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sims
on Rome St, Rev. W, E. Dozier
performing the ceremony.
