“YOUR STORE”
If the farmer with his well-filled
crib, his sausage, backbone and J
spareribs, and fifteen cent cotton is
not on top who is?
The Presidents annual message to
Congress is too long for us to print
but it would be well for all patriot
ic citizens to read it.
In planning for Christinas don’t
forget your jioor and humble neigh
bor and remember it is more blessed
to give than to receive.
Do your Christmas shopping at
home, and do it now before the rush
just before the 25th, and then re
member the weather at that time
may be miserable.
I ’)
Don’t suppose, because you hear
little of our new railroad, that the 1
project is dead. It is in the hands
of those who may not say much but I
who believe in doing instead.
It is impossible to tell just now
who will be the choice of the next
Legislature for U. S. Senator, but l t
we believe the selection will be u j f
wise one and reflect the wishes of
the people of the state.
Renewed efforts are being made
to establish a mail route from here
to Temple so as to secure better i |
facilities for the people of our city
and we are glad to slate that the
efforts are likely to succeed.
Charleston, S. C„ is taking a cen-
cus of her shade trees, and thus de
termine which are best and also
| how to better care for them. This
j is wise, for trees make a city warm-
j er in winter and cooler in summer,
: and are always a great help to
| healthfulness and beauty. We
| trust our city fathers will encourage
the planting and care of shade trees.

We notice a vast difference in the
behavior of our young people in
public and on the streets. Some of
them in a noble way always take
notice of their elders, whom they
pass, by politely and cheerfully
speaking to them: while others
rudely deign not to notice, much less
j to speak. Young men, and young
women, never forget “age is entitled
to deference,” and rtspect for it is a
sure sign of good breeding. You will
be old some day.
Th. Postal “Doctor."
Probably cno of the most inter
esting of the many occupations fol
lowed at fit. Martin’s le Grand is
that of the postal “doctors.” These
worthies are really four senior sort
ers, who perform the special duty
of “doctoring” letters, packages,
etc., which, owing to insecure or
careless packing, have become broken
or damaged in the post. It is in
the sorting room that they are hu
morously termed “doctors.” Arti-
I Gladstone and a Hat.
\ The most famous hat incident in
1 the house of commons took place
when Mr. Gladstone was premier for
the third time and had to intervene
on a point of order after a division
had been called. The rules require
that in such circumstances the mem
ber addressing the chair must do so
with his hat on. and Mr. Gladstone
'could riot tind his hat. In despair
he grabbed that of a colleague,
which was at least four sizes too
des of infinite variety passthrough sniil h f or him, a,1( l bio spectacle of
these “doctor” hands, from coin, die minute headgear rocking about
bank notes and stamps to bottles of 011 ^ r - Gladstone s massive head was
medicine, c.ij and poison.—Brook- 1 <,!,c that those who saw it will ne«er
-- • ! forget.—London Globe.
MANY A MAN
Is a critic because he likes to
be contrary. You can go con
trary to the wishes of your
friends and neighbors and some
times get the best of them, but
go contrsry to the dictates of
nature and you always get the
worst of it.
If Nature Says Spectacles,
Then Spectacles it must be.
Nature won’t accept just Spec
tacles though: they must be
right Spectacles. I can give
the kind that nature demands.
