Rural Carriers Get More Pay.
Quiet a number of inquiries
have seconed the fourth assistant
postmaster peneral, P. V. De-
Gaw, as to the final shape in which
the postoffice appropriation bill pass
ed congress, and whether it author
ized an increase in salary for carriers,
and granted them thirty days’ leave
of absence annually.
The increase in pay was authoriz
ed. The maximum amount is made
$1,000 a year, instead of $900, for
routes 24 miles in length and over.
Shorter routes are increased propor
tionately. The readjustments will
be made by the department.
The provision for thirty days’ leave
of absence, with pay, annually was
stricken in the senate, and the con
ference committee failed to put it
back.

Death of Mrs. E. L. Jones.
On the morning of the 15th inst.
the Spirit of this good woman was
called from earth to the “ rest that
remaineth for the people of God.”
In her death the bereaved husband
and children lose a most affectionate
companion and mother, while the
church at Abilene is also bereaved
of a devoted member. *
Sister Jones was from early life
a devout Christian, and nearly thirty
years an exemplary member of the
Baptist church.
May a kind Providence afford
all needed grace and comforr the
sorrowing hearts with the hope of a
happy meeting beyond this vale of
sorrow.
