One of the things that Carrollton
must look to in the near future, is
the securing of a free public library.
Such an institution, well equipped
is indeed, "The university of the
people." Many comparatively small
places have public libraries, as New-
nan, Barnesville, Montezuma and
numerous other towns, Carrollton
also shall have, can have, and some
day will have one. We already
have the nucleus in a library sus
tained by subscription members.
B.ut to accomplish the great good
the library should be free. Do we
need such a library and will the
people read the books? From the
shelves of the small library we al
ready have about 1200 volumes,
annually about 1500 to 2000 books
are taken and read. This is the
sufficient answer to the above ques
tion. Besides with a free library
hundreds of books would be taken
out and read where one is now.
Progress in all lines, educational,
scientific, business anil agricultural
demands that we keep abreast of
the times and afford to all classes
of our people books of reference,
and in information.
A free public library will do this.

Do You Take The Youth's
Companion?
John Wesley used to say that
the devil ought not to have all the
good tunes. The editors of The
Youth’s Companion think that he
ought not to have all the
entertaining reading either, so
they make The Companion one of
the most attractive periodicals
ever published, yet one whose
influence can be trusted as you
would trust your father’s or
mother’s. That explains why The
Companion has thousands upon
thousands of readers who every
Thursday night, under innumerable
lamps, in village after village
town after town, bend with eager
faces over the fascinating pages of
the new number just at hand
absorbing the accounts of strange
and perilous adventure, the droll,
sketches of domestic predicaments,
the delightful stories of the good
old times when the worlcl jogged a
little slower than now, the
contributions by men and women
of light and leading. There is no
other paper quite like it, noue that
seems so to belong to the home
Bourland, San

writes:

which caused

My entire sys

became In-

my condition
grew worse. I
had an Incessant cough and frequent
attacks of bilious colic, from which It
seemed I could not recover. My bowels
also became affected, causing alarming
attacks of hemorrhages. I tried many
remedies, which gave only temporary
relief or no relief at all. I at last tried
Peruna, and In three days I was re
lieved of the bowel derangement. After
using five bottles I was entirely cured.
I most cheerfully recommend the use of
Peruna to any one similarly alfiicted.”

Poor Way to Advertise.
How many persons ever examine
an advertising circular that is sent
to them through the mails, thrown
into their yards and houses or is
forced into their hands on the s reets?
A Lexington, Ky., man has com
plained through the newspapers
aganst thefrequjncy with w.iijiihis
lawn is littered by distributors of
circulars.
He claims that “he went home the
other day and counted more than one
hundred circulars in the front yard,
and, in addition, found that his mail
box was stuffed full of them.’’
The Kentucky man complains of
this sort of thing as a nuisance, and
the Louisville Courier-Journal, com
menting on the matter, says;
“It is a very poor method of adver
tising at best, and there is good rea
son for believing that the money
which business firms spent in that
sort of publicity virtually is wasted.
Housekeepers are not likely to be
favorably impressed by •concerns
which adopt that plan of putting their
business before the public. In fact
