Carist Our Life
"When Christ who is our life shall appear,
then shall ye appear with him in glory.'’
1 —Col. 3:4.
This letter was addressed to the
church at Collossee, and is a beauti
ful statement of the union of Christ
with those who love and trust him,
for he is indeed the real life of the
Christian, in that he is the source of
all grace to every individual be
liever, being first the very life with
in, by which we sustain the holy
relation of brethren and sisters in
Christ and are the children of God
by faith in him, as expressed in Gal.
2:21, “Nevertheless I live, yet not I;
but Christ liveth in me.” So then
every little Christian, who loves Je
sus and truly believes in him, has
Christ within, and the life is sus
tained by his own holy presence.
Then the influence of his divine
presence becomes the guide for our
life, giving direction to our thoughts
that we may have the mind of
Christ, therefore the expression,
Phil. 2:5, "Let this mind be in you,
which was in Christ Jesus.” Did
you know that you can have a mind
like his? that you can think as he
did? Yes when your heart is ten-

Tribute of Respect
The all-wise and ever to be adored
God, in His infinite wisdom, has
seen fit to call from our midst, our
beloved husband, father and brother
in Christ Jesus, Elder P. T. Prichard
The subject of this sketch was
born in Douglas county, Ga., on the
31st day of March, 1833, and was
married to Miss Mary Turner on the
11th day of February, 1857. This
union was blessed with six children
—two boys and four girls, all of
whom are living.
In 1862, when that dark cloud of
war was gathering over our south
land, Bro. Prichard bid farewell to
his home and family, enlisting in
Company A, of the First Confeder
ate Batallion. He was captured at
Petersburg, March 25th, 1865, and
discharged at Point Lookout, June
16th, 1865.
After this most trying period of
three years of bloody battles of that
destructive war, this worthy subject
resumed his place in family at
home, and as was displayed during
those three years of horror and
bloodshed which tried the patriot
ism of men’s souls, he did in no less
degree show himself the man in the
more civil walks of life.
Bro. Prichard joined the Baptist
church of Christ, at the Third Bap
tist church in Atlanta, Ga., in the
year of our Lord 1871. He began
preaching the gospel in 1872; was
ordained to the work of the minis-

ter, then you have the mind of | p ag t or ing churches in Alabama and
Christ. When your little friend or
schoolmate may be in trouble, and
you speak gently, and wipe the tear
from the weeping eyes, then you
have the mind of Christ. When
any one has wronged you or spoken
ill or harshly to you, and you return
good for evil and words of kindness
for those of anger, then you have
the mind of Christ, and when you
can retire alone and pray for those
who have done you wrong, then you
are like Christ, for you know that
his last prayer on the cross while he
was dying, was for those who were
crucifying him, when he said, "Fa-

Georgia until his life was spent
the service of God.
He was married the second time
on August 26th, 1877, to Miss Emily
A. Dean. This union was blessed
with eight children, five of whom
survive and mourn his death. These
eleven of his children are living and |
all of them are members of the Bap
tist church.
Father Prichard was 78 years, 4

for a moment and think, for Jesus
does not ask us to do anything that
we can’t do, but will help us to do
his will in all things, for he is the
strength of our life and we cannot
of ourselves do these things, indeed
we can of ourselves do nothing, but
can do all things through Christ
who strengthens us.—Phil. 4:23.
The way, and the only way we
can do these things, is first to give
ourselves by faith to him and when
these trials come before us, his good
promise will never fail, which prom

there is laid up for me a crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous judge, shall give me at
tliat day; and not to me only, but
unto all them also that love His ap-1
pearing.”
In all the sorrows and bereave
ments incident to human life, it is
the Christian’s duty to kiss the hand
of Providence, saying, "Thy will be
done;” having a perfect faith in the
goodness of God, which shall surely
work out for his children a happi
ness that will last through eternity.

Death’s shaft has penetrated our
band and our father has been taken
from us. His death has caused a
sad vacancy in his community, for
none knew him but to love and ad
mire his beautiful traits of charac
ter—so gentle, so kind and so
thoughtful to those with whom he
associated.
Meek and modest was his Christ
ian life, which shed its good influ
ence around all with whom it came
in contact. His grand motive in
life was to serve God and give Him
the glory, to brighten the lives of all
those around him, by letting his
light shine—the Christian’s light—
the rays of which are patience, jus
tice, mercy and love.
Though he is gone, the influence
of his noble life still lives to purify
the memories in which it is treas
ured. The most convincing evi
dence of Christ’s religion to the
world is its beautiful principles
lived in every day life. This grand
testimony he gave to us when the
great summons came, in that of
bidding each one of his loved ones
to meet him in the great beyond,
where all is peace and love.
Now his earthly pilgrimage is
ended. Christ has reached down
and plucked another jewel for His
crown, calling upon us to consign
the temple of that fair soul to the
trust of the silent grave.

Indeed, it was sad to see our father die,
Sad to hear his last farewell.
But if you’ll a faithful Christian live,
You'll meet him there, forever to dwell.
Kind children, say, why do you weep?
Your father, dear, doth only sleep,
Saved from suffering and from pain,
Have faith, you’ll see your father again.
You loved him, yes, you loved him,
But angels loved him more,
And they have sweetly called him
To yonder shining shore.
The golden gates were opened,
A gentle voice said, “come,’'
And with farewells unspoken,
He calmly entered home.
Yes, dear angels, I am ready,
Wife and children, meet me there.
Yes, dear brothers, I am going,
There is room for you up there.
