The Newspaper Job
Many people believe that a news
paper falls together without work
or concerted action or plan. Rev.
McLeod, a Presbyterian minister at
Pasadena, was of the opinion, and
asked to be allowed to edit an edi
tion of the Pasadena Star. The
editor gladly accepted the opportu
nity to go fishing, and the minister
took up his duties in the newspaper
office. This is Show he felt when
he found himself at the end
of the task, which it must be
said, had been done quite credit
ably.
“My time is almost up as I pen
this last line; my hand is almost
paralized; my brain is befuddled
and I am free to confess that I am
right glad to vacate the holy spot.
Such rush and riot and disarray.
Such a jumble of potpourri; it strikes
me as the effort to bring order out
of chaos, to do it lightning quick.
- "I am reminded of the memorable
words. “The earth was without
form and void, and darkness was
upon the face of the waters." Never
shall I criticise newspaper men more,
I shall pray for them. They will
have my heart’s forbearance hence
forth and forever. They are the
hardest worked, shortest lived poor
est paid brain workers on this
weary old world of ours.”—Publish

Why Our Girls are
To be carried back to the chain-
gang from which he had escaped, by
his own father was the unique and
unpleasant experience of John
Brown, a negro, living near Moultrie,
recently.
Brown managed to elude one of
the guards some time ago and it
was thought that he had made a
successful getaway until one morn
ing recently the escaped convict
was carried to the camp in custody
of his father who is an old ante-bel
lum negro. The old man gave as
his reasons for carrying his son
back to the chaingang, as that he
had tried to raise him right, and
had been warning him since he was
a boy in knee trousers that he would
wind up in the penitentiary or on
the gallows if he didn’t mend his
ways, and that ignoring his protes
tations, his son violated the law and
was convicted and then after escap
ing from the gang, came to his house
wearing a zebra suit and the shack
les still around his legs and half
starved. Then the old negro shook
his hoary head and said: “Boss, I
jest wuszn’t gwine to stand fur that
trifling raskel to bring disgrace on
me and my fambly ennymore."
The negro still has six years to
serve of a term of eight for burglary.

Remarkable Cure for Dysentery
"I was attacked with dysentery
about July 15th, and used the doc
tor’s medicine and other remedies
with no relief, only getting worse all
the time. I was unable to do any
thing and my weight dropped from
145 to 125 pounds. I suffered for
about two months when I was ad
vised to use Chamberlain's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. I
used two bottles of it and it gave
me permanent relief." writes B. W.
Hill of Snow Hill, N. C. For sale by

Leave drink alone absolutely.—
President Taft.
Did you ever stop to think that
the section of country that does
not raise its own food is going to be
poor in spite of the other crops that
it raises? We cannot hope to pros
per when we are paying out every
year for food stuffs more money
than our cotton crop brings to our
coffers, and the biggest trouble is
that the food stuffs could have all
been grown alongside the cotton crop,
and an enormous amount of money
saved to the state. Think this thing
over and resolve to grow all your
supplies on the farm.—Dublin Cour
ier Dispatch.
The present condition of Georgia’s
farmers is due to their failure to
produce sufficient food stuffs on their
farms. The craze of growing cotton
has played a prominent part—in
that the brokers have reaped the
profits from the cotton crops. There
is as much, if not more, money in
raising grain as can be made pro
ducing cotton. The western states
find it to be exceedingly profitable.
We need not tell our readers that
Georgia can do equally as well if her
farmers would only try. There is
no excuse for paying a dollar or more
per bushel for corn when it can be
raised at home for 18c to 25c.
Where is the economy in growing
cotton with which to buy grain?—
Monticello News.
Good Reason for His Enthusiasm
When a man has suffered tor sev
eral days with colic, diarrhoea or
other form of bowel complaint and
is then cured sound and well by one
or two doses of Chamberlain's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy, as
is often the case, it is but natural
that he should be enthusiastic in
his praise of the remedy, and espe
cially is this the case of a severe
attack when life is threatened. Try
it when in need of such a remedy.
