According to Into reports issued by
State and Federal health authorities the
Spanish Influenza epidemic is rapidly
spreading to all parts of the country,
ami it now seems that practically every
State in the Union will bo seriously af

It has not only become a great ami
terrifying menace to the public, health.

affected.
The disense has made its greatest
progress in the East where it has claim-

ports from other sections, however, are
squally alarming; and both civil and
military authorities have warned the

been e.losed and public gatherings of
all kinds forbidden.

disease is very catching nml you arc

Mrs. Emmie Thornton departed this
life October 8th, 1918, at her home
near Sardis. She had been ill for sumo
time. She leaves a husband and three
children, a father, five brothers and
olio sister and a host, of friends to
mourn her dentil.
Mrs. Thornton loved her homo and
made many friends while in this world,
as she was loved by all who knew her.
Her remains were laid to rest at
Pleasant Grove church, Rev. I. N. Dan
iel conducting the funeral services.
The bereaved husband and children
have our sympathy.
Sweet mother from 11s is gone,
The voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
That never can be tilled.
Dear husband and,children, weep not
for mother for God in IIis wisdom has
called her, and though the body moul
ders here her soul is safe in heaven, blit
put your trust in God and meet dear
mother on that happy shore, for she has
gone to rest with Jesus.

IN MEMORY OF
MRS. JOHN T. TANT
On Wednesday afternoon, October 2,
1918, God in Itis all wise providence
saw lit to call from us oar dear friend
and loved one, Mrs. Louie Taut. She
was a kind, loving wife and mother
wlicisq fidelity and devotion to tier
'lloiue and family were remarkable, :i
generous sympathizing neighbor and at
all times was ready to lend u helping
hand.
Though her services here in her earth
ly home have ended we feel sure that
her joy in the presene of the Lord has
begun in those mansions not made with
hands, eternal in the heavens. She
leaves her sorrowing lmsbnnd and five
children to suffer her loss. Surely if
anything that loving hands could have
I olio would have kept Mrs. Taut, their
family circle would lie unbroken, for I
have never heard of such devotion her
husband, friends mid children paid her.
Everything possible was done for her,
but nothing seemed to do her any good,
the dear Lord saw lit to takn her home
to rest where there is no more pain nor
sorrow.
Blit the mother is gone. Should ivu
regret her departure 1 Yes. Should we
mourn her loss/ No. “Slio is at
rest.” ’Tis hard to say “She is
guile,” lmt them! dark, sail, trying
times conic to all and hre hard to bear,
but we can only look to God for refuge
mul strength.
Knowing this, dear bereaved ones,
that your hearts are sad because of tho
great alliiction, but meekly bow to our
Great and Good Savior, reinemboiing
that ‘‘All things work togethor for
good to those Hint love Him.”
"Oh thou who moiirnest on life’s way,
I With longing for the close of day;
She walks with time, that angel kind,
And gently whispers, “ He resigned.”
Written by her devoted friend,
MATTIE K. TRIMBLE.
