A Pica ant Surprise.
A pleasant surprise greeted the
congregation at the Methoiii- t ehim 1:
last Sunday morning. The interior
I °f the edifice had been transformed
under the artistic touch of the young
and talented pastor, Rev. G niton
j Fisher, assisted by Miss Ellen Craw
ford and Mesdames Alison, Snow,
SuSsax.and Fisher. The pastor with
his own hands decorated the walls of
the .church with calsomine and the
pulpit aud chancel railing with fresh
coatings of paint, in delicate tints.
The exquisite taste of (lie ladies was
attested in the drapery of the pulpit,
and the arrangement of the ever
greens, flowers and potted plants,
that perfected the pleasing picture.

EASTMAN AND ABBEVILLE
To Be Connected By Rail.
The wide-awake and enteprising
citizens of Kastman have been for
some time considering the advisa
bility of building a railroad to con
nect with steamboats on the Oenml
geo river. Realizing that siteh a
si-p would secure for Kastman great
hehelits in reduced freight rates, a
number of her citizens controlling
ample capital for the enterprise,
have, as the Cuuo.vicuk is credibly in
formed, determined h> build the road
at once. The road will run in a di
rect line according to our informa
tion, from Kastman to Abbeville a
distance of about twenty miles. The
road will be of additional importance
as ii will form a connection between
the Southern railway at Kastman and
the Georgia and Alabama, at Ab
beville. Of course Abbeville will
ba benefited bv the road, as It will
give her important, additional rail
facilities, to say nothing of gnat in
crease in river trallic at this point.
There are now several b >ats plying
the Ocmulgee from Macon and llaw
kinsville to the sea. end others are
in contemplation. With the Kast
man and Abbeville road other steam
ers would be added to the river licet
and a fresh impetus would he given
to navigation on the Ocmulgee
river.
