An Infant’s Cry.
Bret Ilarte achieved sudden anti
enduring fame by the touching little
story, “The Luck of Roaring Camp.”
It told of the humanizing ' % influence C
of a helpless infant away from wo
man’s care in a rough miners’ camp,
In the June Delineator Elmore El
liott Peake, who has achieved fame
as the author of “The Darlingtonsy ,
describes again the power of an in
fant in softening a hard heart. The
story is called “The Lion and the
Lamb,” and tells of a runaway
match, the unyielding opposition of
the father of the girl, and his filial
complete relenting when the voice of
his grandchild reaches his ear. It
is a strong story, full of human emo
tion and very well told.

In Memory of Mrs. Effie Statham.
Death has again visited our com
m unity anel taken from our midst
our beloved friend Piffle Statham at
the age of twenty two. From the
time she gave her heart to God the
force of her character and strength
of her life was for Christ and his
work. She desired to live that she
might further contribute to the ban
piness of her loved ones but of death
she was no: afraul.
Her life was one of unusual beau
ty and tier death is keenly felt by all
who knew her. A consecrated
Christian, a true friend and help,
indeed and a loving mother.
C ‘‘i ca ,,I, ® t DUed -may the
bod whom she . loved supremely and
so faithfully served keep iier
ones from all evil and at last may
tlie y a11 he gathered together around
the father’s throne without the loss
of a sirgle one.
Dear friend how we miss thee,
And thy place can lie er be filled;
But we’ll have to dp without the,
For-so lie has willed.
But we will strive to meet thee.
In tiie land of light;
And when we’ve said farewell to
this vain world,
May our lives be free of a siimle
“
blight.
Yes we have put her,
To rest beneath the sod.

One precious to our hearts has gone,
The voice we loved is stilled.
The place made vacant in the home,
Can never more be filled.
Dur father in his wisdom called
The boon his love had given;
And though, on earth the bod; lies,
The soul is safe in Heaven.
Ijo the prisoner is released
Lightened of her fleshy load:
Where the weary are at rest,
She is gathered unto God. ■

A calm ancl undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.
Weep not loved ones for she’s gone. •
To that far away place, we all call

Be thou faithful unto death,
Thou too shall go to that land of
