A Freak of Lightning.
Last Monday morning during a
thunder storm lightning struck the
house occupied by Mr. Welborn Fill
ler. The bolt entered the room near
the window tearing olf some of the
weatherboard and then jumped to the
fireplace where tore up the mantle
piece, scattering U over the room and
throwing a piece of scantling across
the room to the bed. It also started
a fire in the fireplace. A picture
was hanging by a wire over the fire
place this was also thrown to the floor
leaving the marks of the burned wire
on the wall. The chimney does not
show any sign of the stroke

Another New Brick Building.
Contractor C W Phillips has the
contract to build a brick building for
Mr. A I Webb on the corner of
Depot and Stubbs streets. Work In s
already begun and it will be rushed
to completion. We are informed that
it lias already been rented but as yet
have been unable to learn tbe new

Cutting and Shooting Scrape
On last Saturday night two negroes
got into an altercation over a woman
and one cut the others throat from
ear to ear and they then got to shoot
ing and it seemed for awhile as if

were arrested Sunday morning and
placed iu jail where they ivill remain

New Bottling Works.
Messrs. Paxson Bros, have put in
an entirely new bottling works and
are turning out some of the best soda
water ever made. Last week they
shipped over one hundred cases and
they. have orders in hand that will
keep them in a rush for sometime to
comp. Paxson Bros, are not nov

sure of another. They also bottle
cider, ginger ale, coca-cola, etc,
Three people were killed by
lightning at Cordele one day last
week.
It is expected that there will be a
large crowd of visitors in Hie city
next week attending Commencment
and we would like to get the names

or know any thing of local impor
