City of Macon Afloat.
The steainerCity of Macon which
sank in the river near hove several
weeks ago was raised V edensday

Doings of that body—Committeemen
Elected-Petltions to be Circulated
In response to a call through the
county papers a meeting of the
citizens ot Wilcox county was held in
Rochelle on Saturday July 6th for
the purpose of deciding as to
whether it would be advisable to
have an election upon the question of
the prohibition of the sale of Whis
key in Wilcox counuty.
The meeting was largely attended
by some of the most prominent citi
zens in the county, every district
being represented.
Great enthusiasm was manifested
tlie reports made from each dis
trict were very encouraging.
Quite a number of verv interesting
and spirited speeches were made and
after the subject was thoroughly
discussed the body proceeded to go
into a permanent organization by

Resolved, that it is the sense of
this meeting that we organaze a
campaign and call an election at an
early day upon the question of the
prohibition of the sale of intoxicating
liquors in Wilcov county
It was also moved and adopted
that the chair appoint one or more
men in each district to act with him
as an exucutivecommittie to conduct
the campaign for prohibition.'
Committeemen were apointed and
petitions to the ordinary calling for
an election are now being circulated
in each district of the county,

Cotton Bolls
Mr. J 0 Fitzgorrld, of Ceder
Creek, was m the city yesterday and
brought with him several full grown
and well matured cotton bolls.
Mr, Fitzgerald says lie has eight
acres and that it is waist high and
that nearly ail of it is well filled
with bolls. This is the first
that we have seen this season who
has cotton as good
Rev. E Z F Golden, pastor of the
Louisville Baptist church spent
several davs of this week in the city.
Mr. J K Monroe paid Forest Glen
and Sibbie a visit one day this week.
We learn that the section around
Forest Glen and Sibbie had one of
the hardest rains last .Monday that
they have had in several years in
some places cotton was badly wasli
up. From all over the county the
cry for rain conies; and when it does
come some men say, well, 1 wish it
had not rained so hard, rather it
hadn’t rained at all.
